Is there an out-of-the-box way to make current nav (left-side nav bar) have expand/collapse?

I can't seem to find how to activate (if possible) expand/collapse on the current navigation / left-side navigation bar. I thought there used to be an out-of-the-box method to do this. All I can seem to find in the discussion groups is a code solution, but we need to keep our site out-of-the-box. Thanks.

I realized I could have been clearer - I'm not looking to hide/show the left navigation bar. I'm looking to have expand/collapse for the items shown on the bar.

@rondotm Just wanted to confirm are you using SharePoint server 2013 with classic experience or the latest SharePoint versions with modern experience?

Expand/collapse for navigation menu items is possible with modern experience.
