Is the existing 2016 template/UI for site pages going to be obsolete?

The update of site contents section to new UI has raised the question 'what if microsoft decides to obsolete the existing site page template/UI?"

I need to create 30+ new team sites. We already have an existing template for team site landing pages, which is old (non-responsive). Should i create the new sites in the modern UI, or use the existing template. Is there any communication from MS about its plans for the site pages?

For now what we know is that Microsoft is going to keep both models for some time. IMHO, if modern SPO sites meet your requirements, then go for them.
