Is Microsoft developing 64-bit ActiveX for SharePoint

Brass Contributor

We are running SharePoint Server 2016. All of the ActiveX controls in IE11 for SharePoint are 32-bit. Are there any plans to release 64-bit versions?

ActiveX is dead. IE is dead. No further improvements. All features are being developed without any plugins in mind.
That makes total sense. Sorry for my ignorance but does that mean that all the features in SP2016 that require ActiveX will work in Edge? Or do we need to upgrade to SP2019 to use those features in Edge?

Solution
Any feature that requires ActiveX will only work in IE. Edge does not have ActiveX.

Not only would you have to upgrade to 2019, you'd have to move to the modern Team/Comm sites. This involves a content migration as you cannot convert between classic templates and modern templates.

As always... thank you for your input Trevor!!
