I have created a hub site with two associated sites and published news in the associated sites. I then dropped a news web part on the hub site and targeted it to the associated sites so that news from those sites would be displayed on the hub. Strange thing is that not all the news is bubbles up from the associated site. The first time I tried with one associated site and only 6 of 12 news posts would show on the hub site news. I then added the second associated site and published 6 more news posts and only 1 of those showed up on the hub. So now i get 7 posts from 2 associated sites. 1/6 from one associated site and 6 of 12 from another hub site. Can anyone explain this?

@Dave Walker I don't know how quickly you doing things but I find sometimes that it can take up to 20 minutes for a news item to flow up from associated sites to the top-level hub site after publishing. Also, a couple of things you might want to look at: 1) that in the associated sites that you are publishing a news post, not just adding a page, and 2) that in your Site Pages library where the news stories (and other pages) sit that the PromotedState column of your news posts are all showing as 2.

Thanks @Chris Webb. All news articles are returned using Microsoft Search. As well, I can display all 12 news articles in a highlighted content web part on the hub site.

@Chris Webb after much testing I found this issue only occurred when I used the "Basic Text" template for my news posts. Once I switched to the "Blank" template everything worked as it should.
