How to display tags/labels for individual pages in a SharePoint Online site

I want to develop a training site in SharePoint Online in our O365 environment to collate training material, guides, FAQs etc. I essentially want to use modern pages in a team site but have the ability to add tags or labels (much like on this site!) so that people can find relevant content quickly and easily. Wiki sites have this functionality but they're a bit ugly. Wiki pages don't seem to have this functionality. Should I be adding a column of metadata to a modern pages library for these categories, but how would I surface them to the users (with each page showing its relevant tags). Would greatly appreciate any suggestions you have.
