I have a Communications site that is a Hub site. I have Team sites associated to the hub site and that site has a sub-site to segment specific content to be available on the Hub. The Highlighted Content web part on the Comm site will allow me to select the sub-site (Sites associated with this hub), but will not surface any information from that sub-site unless the Team site's root site is also selected.
