Group by 'Content Type'

Iron Contributor

We can group by content type on the column header but:

  1. It's always expanded
  2. Setting it to collapse breaks the grouping,
  3. Doing anything to the view breaks the grouping

How do we set up a group by content type without having to manually type in "?groupby=contenttype" in the URL????

It's all well and good to go into SharePoint Designer for yet another "hack/workaround" and add something or use the method just mentioned, but when you click on a link to take you to a list view, we can't specify any of these criteria since the view URL can't have criteria set after ".aspx".

Grouping by content type one would think would've been effortlessly possible earlier this century when content types first came out in what SP2013? The "Content Type" field is not included in the available fields listed for grouping on. How? Why?

How is this still an issue in 2022?? This is by no means an outlandish request or expectation.

Thanks, hopefully someone has a brilliant method (hack/workaround)

P.S. Yes I know how to create a text field and have flow update the text field with the content type value, HOWEVER, all things considered, that really should not be an expectation of the user and is an unnecessary "hack/work around" in today's day and age. C'mon.
