Feasibility to upload 5GB to SharePoint

Copper Contributor

I know that Microsoft recommends 2GB as the optimal file upload limit.  However, as my users have files that are 3 to 5 GB in size, to store in SharePoint as project files, our SharePoint set up has to cater to take in such files.

I understand that there are many factors that could come into play on the upload speed, etc.  Putting the performance aside, is it technically feasible for 5GB file upload to SharePoint if we set the file upload limit to 6GB?  What is the chance of timeout, etc.?

Hi,
Since you are working with SharePoint 2016, it should not be a problem to upload files bigger than 3 - 5 GB: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/install/software-boundaries-and-limits-0
