Error - Unable to enforce unique values in SharePoint list

New to the community - look forward to any help on this topic.

I am attempting to edit a column in a large SharePoint list (roughly 26000 entries). I cannot add, edit, or change default choices on columns. The error reads "We are unable to enforce unique values because this list exceeds the list view threshold enforced by the administrator".

Enforce unique values is not turned on for this column (or any others from what I can tell).

We are in SharePoint online so no ability to raise the 5000 default threshold. Column does have formatting for existing choices. I can add new choices by going through List Settings but unable to format them without receiving the same error.

How can I make the requested changes to this column?

@OBXOcean  Encountering the same issue here.  Please help!

@connormitchell The work around is simple. Go to Settings >> List Settings & edit columns from here. It will not throw an error.

I'm not very good with JSON so my color coding is a little off-key at the moment but I'm going to recreate the column in a test center with the right color sequence, let it build the JSON script for me & then copy/paste it into the large threshold list.
