Few key details,

- SharePoint Office 365

- Document Library 

- Document Library setting is set to 'Classic View'. Also advanced settings set to open with Client Application.

- Issue: Documents (word/excel) don't open in client application rather it opens document in online app.

- Issue exists only when I use Chrome browser and set library view setting to 'Classic View' instead of modern experience. In modern experience it works fine.

Is it not an option to go to modern and avoid classic?

@Tarundeep Singh - we are experiencing this in our tenant as well. Multiple different sites and ONLY when the library is set to display as 'classic'. Did you ever find a solution? Or did it 'fix itself'?
