Document Move in SharePoint Online

SharePoint Online has a nice move/copy feature for which we noticed and got a few questions recently around the metadata that I can preserve as the file is moved elsewhere.

We tested a use case where users wanted to move files from one Document Library to another Document Library in the same SharePoint online site. The Move To feature was used and the files were moved. Users noticed that the last modified time stamp was not preserved as the file was moved away from one library to a new one.  It looks other metadata is preserved such as the creation time stamp of the file.

What metadata is carried over and what is not carried over as we use the move to feature? Curious to understand why the file on its new location is flagged as modified since no user action on its content or metadata took place unless something behind the scenes makes a metadata change.

Metadata is carried over during move and copy features, but it requires that same site columns are available on the destination library.
