We have a list that has several columns that require updating dates frequently. When we open the column to update it we usually have to scroll ahead two years and some times several months before we can get to the current day (some people do not like to type either). It there a setting for when you open the calendar, it will open to the current month and year?

I would be interested in this solution as well. We have the same issue.
