create metadata columns in specific folders in sharepoint

Copper Contributor

Hi how do I create metadata columns in 1 specific folder within a sharepoint document library without those columns appearing across the whole library.  As an example i want to create a "status" column in 1 of my folders where i can set a stats of "in progress" or "completed" for each document in that 1 folder but when i create that column it then appears across all the folders in my library.

Appreciate any help :)

Check out the Document Set feature: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/introduction-to-document-sets-3dbcd93e-0bed-46b7-b1ba-b31.... There are differences in how you can use the feature depending on the SP version, but basically a DC let you define metadata for a set of related documents.
