maybe a simple question, or maybe tired :D  

How can this be resolved: 

Users enter https://information in a browser - and must be sent to https://<teanant>.sharepoint.com/sites/information

CNAME cannot redirect to a full URL, just FQDN. Simply create a shortcut/bookmark/favorite and publish it to user's PCs/browsers?

Depends on your infrastructure, but if you have some kind of redirector via load balancer or you can use IIS with host headers, you can point vanity URL's and redirect them to a static URL, but that's the only way. Nothing built into Office can handle this, or just a simple DNS (cname) record.
