Can we modify the layout for the modern pages

Steel Contributor

I have 2 sharepoint online site collections:-

1. Classic team sites

2. communication modern sites.

and on both sites we have the option to add modern pages. but i am not sure if we can change the layout of those modern pages? for example in the classic world we use to modify the page layout for the classic site pages and wiki pages, so are those features available for the modern pages?

Thanks

Hi @John John

Would recommend this article comparing pages in the classic and modern experiences

About 2/3rds of the way down. Modern page layouts are designed to be flexible.

In addition this compare of classic and modern web parts may be of help

Hope that answers your questions!

thanks for the reply, i am not sure how we can modify the layout for modern pages? i use to edit the enterprisewiki.aspx page, to modify the layout of wiki pages,, but i can not find this capability for modern pages.. not sure what is meant by `Modern page layouts are designed to be flexible.`?

Ah ok, I see what you mean. The new experience is often referred to as reactive meaning the layout is easier to change the display in terms of its web parts.

Fro what you mean I guess this is columns where things are etc. In the modern page you have to build in the layouts provided

This blog should help

Hope that clarifies!

No, you cannot modify the layout of modern SPO pages in the same way you could do it with classic pages. What you can do in modern SPO is to create custom Page Layouts (this feature is being rolled out now) from existing pages....what your are doing is just saving your customizations as templates you can reuse to create later new pages https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/page-templates-in-sharepoint-online-faa92408-0c84-4e3d-8460...

@Juan Carlos González Martín

thanks for the reply. but i did not get your point? so you mean modern pages will not have the option to define custom page layout for them? and what we will have is the ability to save a modern page as template and re-use it ?

Yes, that what I mean
