I have 2 sharepoint online site collections:-
1. Classic team sites
2. communication modern sites.
and on both sites we have the option to add modern pages. but i am not sure if we can change the layout of those modern pages? for example in the classic world we use to modify the page layout for the classic site pages and wiki pages, so are those features available for the modern pages?
Thanks

No, you cannot modify the layout of modern SPO pages in the same way you could do it with classic pages. What you can do in modern SPO is to create custom Page Layouts (this feature is being rolled out now) from existing pages....what your are doing is just saving your customizations as templates you can reuse to create later new pages https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/page-templates-in-sharepoint-online-faa92408-0c84-4e3d-8460...
thanks for the reply. but i did not get your point? so you mean modern pages will not have the option to define custom page layout for them? and what we will have is the ability to save a modern page as template and re-use it ?
