Associate subsites in the same site collection to 2 different hub sites?

Copper Contributor

I'm seeing the words "site" and "site collection" being used interchangeably, so I want to be sure I've got this.

Right now, we have  one site collection with most of our subsites off of it for different groups and functions. Except we also have separate site collections from Teams and Groups and all sorts of other things.

So, for a theoretical example:

Site Collection 1 has subsites 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3.

I've also got Site Collection 2, 3, and 4.

Can I create Hub Site A and associate 1.1, 1.3, and 4 to it? And then Hub Site B has 1.1 and 2?

Or am I stuck with Site Collection 1 and all its subsites going to one Hub Site?

@m-mascari hub site associations are on a per-site collection basis. In other words, you cannot associate a single subsite to a hub site.

I'd suggest you to read the following article for more background information:

Yeah as Paul said, SharePoint Online approach should be site collection for everything, so you'll need to migrate out and flatten your current Site Collection 1.0 into multiple site collections to build out a hub.
