I added in some additional task fields to test the importing of list information into the task. After this the approved/rejected buttons disappeared. I removed the fields I added but the buttons are still missing.
I am trying to create a custom content list to get away from using the Workflow Task (SharePoint 2013) OOTB content type but until then this is the one I am using. Even when I test with another content type it does not show the buttons.
The posts I have found here that are related to this have not seemed to correct the issue unless I am missing something in the process.
