Add a manual comment column in SharePoint to add comments to folders

I want to add a column in Sharepoint so I can add comments to folders. Basically, a notes field. This works perfectly if I want to add comments to a file but it doesn't allow comments on a folder.

@PRatcliff it should be possible.

Once you have created the custom "comment" column as a multiline-text, you should be able to add comments by using the button "Edit in grid view" on top

Hello.

Thank you for your response. I would like to do something similar, but something that would allow for a string of comments between users; similar to the comment section in Microsoft list, where you can post comments, tag users, etc.

Is this doable?
