Adding web parts to modern pages multi-column

Since communication sites have lit up we've seen problems with the pnp adding modern web parts to page. In particular corrupting the page with a non numeric index or the first section (since the current code doesn't support sections) only working with image or hero. Anyone find a way to add webparts to multi-column

AFAIK, Manually adding the web parts to a page through the standard SharePont interface is the only way.

You even find that uploading a page (other than adding a new one through Add New in the interface doesn't work any more). Even if you switch back to classic mode.

It's worked fine pre multi column so I'm guessing there's something with having sections defined
