Is there a way to type in the value in the lookup field instead of choosing it from the dropdown that appears. I know you can in quick edit.

@FrodeH

No. Lookup columns are designed to choose from existing option which is referenced to column in another list. Lookup columns are used to avoid data inconsistency and to have same data truth. Even if you use Edit Datasheet view of the list, typing in your own value will error out and doesn't allow you to save.

If your need is to allow user to provided own value if not present in the list, use Choice column type and set to allow user entered value.

@Rahul Suryawanshi  Sorry for being unclear. I mean start typing in the field and have the field autocomplete based on what you are typing. NOT addind data.
