In my first test, a post from an associated site rolled up to the hub. In a second test, (new hub and associated sites), they did not even though the associated site carried the theme from the hub. Is there anything else that I need to do to get the news posts working? I tried re-registering the sites and waited over-night. Checked this morning and still no roll up. Thanks.

Nevermind! Thanks to another thread by Chris Webb here, I have to add the news web part. I think the difference in my tests is that this time my Hub is a Comm site and the associated site is a Team site. In my first test, both were Team sites and I didn't have to do anything with the news web part (on the Hub site) that was provisioned during site creation. Seems to work now. I will update my blog post (shameless plug: http://www.uptempoconsulting.com/blog/2018/03/registering-spo-hub-site/)

Hey SHerman, from my testing, if you add a new news webpart it instantly indexes the news. What happens with existing ones, is there is a delay for index. If you wait, it'll populate, but if you want to force it, you can delete and add a new one :).

Yes, that's exactly what I did when I saw the other thread where it was stated that the News web part got updated as well (even though I don't see any more configuration options). But adding it again fixed it, and I deleted the old one.
