Set a different default label for Outlook in Azure Information Protection unified labeling (AIP UL)

Brass Contributor

Hi,

Can anyone confirm that the custom configuration for the Azure Information Protection unified labeling (AIP UL) to "Set a different default label for Outlook" works only for Outlook app client and not with the Outlook web app (outlook.office.com)?

We changed the AIP policy key "OutlookDefaultLabel" (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/information-protection/rms-client/clientv2-admin-guide-custom...) but we continue to see the previous our default AIP label on the Outlook web app (outlook.office.com), instead we can correctly see the changed default label only in the Outlook app on Windows 10.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Solution

Yes, confirmed. The Azure Information Protection unified labeling client supports Office desktop apps on Windows, not on other platforms - iOS, Android, Mac, and the web. The last category includes Outlook on the web, often referred to as OWA.

All these platforms are supported by built-in labeling for closer parity across devices (not all features are currently supported by all platforms), but the tradeoff is fewer customizations. Consider requesting this feature on the UserVoice site: https://office365.uservoice.com/forums/289138-office-365-security-compliance?category_id=379528
