AIP - Licensing Question

Brass Contributor

Hi,

Need advise on below questions on AIP licensing.

My customer is using O365 Business Essentials - 30 users. He want to use AIP for IRM. 10 users out of 30 will be using AIP to protect the information, rest will only consume the information.

Questions are:

1. Can he buy AIP P1 as an add-on to Office 365 BE?

2. Can he buy only 10 AIP P1? We will enable AIP on tenant and use onboarding controls so only 10 users can use AIP to protect the information. Refer below arcticle

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/information-protection/deploy-use/activate-service

When the Azure Rights Management service is activated, all users in your organization can apply information protection to their files, and all users can open (consume) files that have been protected by the Azure Rights Management service. However, if you prefer, you can restrict who can apply information protection, by using onboarding controls for a phased deployment.

Any refernce to MS official documentatio would help.

Thank you.

If it's avaialble under Billing -> Purchase services in your O365 admin center you should be able to buy and mix/match it. Note however, that the Office Business suite (the desktop applications) do NOT support RMS in general, afaik, so you will only be able to "consume" documents unless you upgrade to the "full" Pro Plus version.

And the usual note - as we're not qualified to speak about licensing, best contact your Microsoft representative or open a support case with billing support.
