Note: This roadmap announcement was originally published in September 2014.  It has been updated with links to additional details and product announcements published subsequently. [ Updated 8/7/2015 with clarifications and a link to the Configuration Manager Technical Preview] [ Updated 11/16/2015 with links to the announcements for System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager SP1 and System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP2, the Windows 10 compatibility update for Configuration Manager 2007 and MDT 2013 Update 1. Also added a link to our post about support for the Windows 10 branches with Configuration Manager.] Today at a Microsoft event in San Francisco, the Windows team shared new details on the future of Windows in the enterprise, with a first look at Windows 10.  Aligned with this announcement , we’d like to begin sharing more of our high level direction for Windows 10 management with System Center Configuration Manager and Windows Intune .  And in addition share early information on our Configuration Manager support for the next version of Windows Server . Windows 10 will be delivered in a way that allows for more choice and flexibility for businesses.  Businesses will be able to opt-in to the fast-moving consumer pace, or lock-down mission critical environments that require only security updates and fixes. In alignment with these changes for Windows 10, the next version of Configuration Manager will be more easily updatable to support each of these Windows 10 updates.  At the same time we also recognize that not all of our customers will immediately upgrade to this next version of Configuration Manager so for this reason we will provide support across previous versions.  In summary: In addition, as Windows 10 delivers advanced mobile device management (MDM) to support evolving enterprise requirements, Intune will provide the leading mobile-first, cloud-first management capabilities for Windows 10.  Intune is Microsoft’s cloud-based MDM solution and forms part of the Enterprise Mobility Suite – which delivers MDM, cloud identity and access management, and information protection solutions for your business. Finally, for Windows Server, Configuration Manager will also support the evolving servicing model covered at a high level in the Windows Server announcement today. We will have options for those moving to the next version of Configuration Manager, in addition to customers with existing System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager and SP1 infrastructure. For more information see . At this technical preview milestone, many of the features and scenarios of Windows 10 and Windows Server are still in development and are not intended for broad production roll out, as such we have decided not to ship a Configuration Manager preview at this time, and will do so in H1 CY15.  With that, we would like to say thank you for reading, and we look forward to continuing to share more information with you in the coming weeks and months.
