"Authenticator app" vs "Microsoft Authenticator"

Brass Contributor

Hi

Can anyone shed any light on this:  after assigning a user a temporary access pass, they set up MS Authenticator, but with the OTP (not notification).  They were subsequently able to add MS Authenticator notifications, which led to 2 entries in the authentication methods - "Authenticator app" and "Microsoft Authenticator".  Anyone know why?

Many thanks

@stromnessian Probably because they are two different default methods. When using the TAP it's a code to bypass for setting it up. When adding the authenticator again you're adding the notification option.

Thanks. That makes sense. I guess there must be a good reason why it's set that way rather than having the notification method after entering the TAP.
