No data available when previewing eDiscovery search results

Created a new eDiscovery (Standard) case using an account that is a member of the eDiscovery Manager role group / eDiscovery Administrator sub-group.  The eDiscovery content searches contain items, but when reviewing samples, get 'No data available', regardless of which search criteria/mailboxes are specified in the search terms.


The items are able to be exported. 


This behavior occurs for both the original eDiscovery Manager role group account, where the user is also an eDiscovery Administrator and for users who were added to a custom role group containing both Compliance Search and Preview roles only. 


This custom role group was added to the case and all associated accounts requiring access to it were also added as members to the case. 


All users have E5 licenses assigned.

Am I missing something else?
