We’re excited to announce the general availability of Microsoft Purview’s DLP policies for Power BI.

DLP policies help you automatically detect sensitive information managed in your Power BI tenant and take risk remediation actions, to help you comply with governmental or industry regulations, such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

By using DLP policies in Power BI, you strengthen your security posture and reduce the risk of sensitive information being uploaded to the cloud without your knowledge.

What we're introducing with this release:

  1. Automatically detect sensitive data as it is being uploaded into Power BI
    1. This includes out-of-the-box sensitive info types (SIT) such as credit cards and social security numbers and custom SITs such as regex or keyword lists and dictionaries.
    2. Any combination of SITs and sensitivity labels, including advanced conditions using AND/OR/NOT operators.
  2. Trigger alerts to compliance admins to take action upon detection of sensitive information.
  3. Show custom messages to Power BI users with guidelines from the compliance admins.
    1. This includes available actions for Power BI users to report false positive or override policies, which is documented in the Audit logs to provide visibility to the compliance admins.
