Documentation for Azure Information Protection
(formerly Azure Rights Management) has been updated on the web and the latest content has a
December 2016
(or later) date at the top of the article.
Updates for this month focus on the new preview version of the Azure Information Protection client, scoped policies (also in preview) and updates to the Azure Information Protection service. If you missed the announcement, see

Note that while the documentation includes information and instructions for the new preview client so that you can test and evaluate it, instructions for a deployment network continue to list the GA version of the Azure Information Protection client and the Rights Management sharing application. In addition, because preview versions are subject to frequent changes, specific release details about the preview client are not listed in the
Azure Information Protection client: Version release history
.

What's new in the documentation for Azure Information Protection, December 2016
The following information lists the articles that have significant technical changes since the last update (November 2016).
Requirements for Azure Information Protection
- Removed the restriction that forms-based authentication is not supported for Azure Information Protection. This authentication restriction is limited to Office 2010 and does not apply to the later Office versions. This is now documented as an Office 2010 restriction only, in

- Updated the table to include the preview version of the Azure Information Protection client, added the SealPath RMS plugin for AutoCAD, and removed Siemen's JT2Go app (.jt files continue to be supported by the RMS sharing application, and now the preview version of the Azure Information Protection client).
Frequently asked questions about classification and labeling in Azure Information Protection
- Updated throughout to remove some of the previous restrictions that no longer apply. For example, the preview client can label and protect files other than Office files, and now works with File Explorer so that you can do this in bulk and without opening the files in your Office applications. In addition:

Planning and implementing your Azure Information Protection tenant key
- Added an important callout that when you run the Use-AadrmKeyVaultKey command, you must specify the key version in addition to the key name. The example we provide includes the key version but the cmdlet doesn't check that it's included. If you do not include the version, and your key in Key Vault is later updated (renewed), the Azure Rights Management service will stop working for your tenant.

- New guide for the preview version of the Azure Information Protection client that will eventually replace the Rights Management sharing application. This guide is for end users rather than administrators, and will replace the corresponding
