AIP support for Apple Macinotsh

Copper Contributor

Good morning,

We are currently piloting AIP on PCs, but about 30% of our corporate fleet are Apple Macs (the rest being Windows PCs).

I would like to clearly understand how much of the AIP feature set that we see on Windows PCs are available on the Mac platform. I see there is a different tool that must be used on Mac (RMS?) but don't understand whether both AIP and RMS provide the same benefits. Is there a document somewhere which compares and contrasts AIP and RMS?

Many thanks.

On Mac you can only "consume" the AIP functionality - basically open labeled and/or protected files. But you cannot classify a document. A native Mac client that supports all the AIP functionalities is in the works and should be released soon.

The "protect" functionality has been available for a while on Mac, via the RMS sharing app.

Any Info. whether AIP is available with MAC yet for protection.

When you use Office for Mac (doesn't need the RMS sharing app), you can protect (as well as open) protected documents and emails.  Office for Mac supports the Azure Rights Management service for protection when you have Office 2016 from Office 365 ProPlus, or Office Standard 2016 for Mac.

What you can't currently do in Office for Mac, is apply Azure Information Protection labels to classify and protect documents and emails. This is in the works, in private preview right now.  You can track it with this User Voice entry: https://msip.uservoice.com/forums/600097-azure-information-protection/suggestions/19602337-integrate...

What is "open labeled"? Thanks.

@Brian_HackneyHe means that a Mac user can open a message or document that has had a label and/or protection applied.

@Vasil Michev do you know if there has been any updates on this ? Do you if AIP UL or Auto classification will be working on MACS any time soon

Hey, Can some one describe clearly if AIP UL client is present for Mac OS or not.

If not, then how can can Mac users classify the document/email.

@schaubey  No, there isn't a version of the Azure Information Protection unified labeling client that lets you apply sensitivity labels to documents and emails.  Instead, use a version of Office Mac that supports sensitivity labels natively (no need to install a separate client).  Use the following link to find the minimum version you need and identify what features are supported: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/sensitivity-labels-office-apps?view=o365-w...
