Exchange email access from mobile devices

Hi there!

Most of our employees access their work emails using Intune MAM (Mobile Application Management). This does not require a full enrollment of the device.

However, they have to use different broker agents - Microsoft Authenticator app for iOS devices and Intune client for Android.

Can this process be simplified to just use one - the Authenticator app or Intune client?

Default Setting for Mailbox properties

Are there plans to make these settings enabled based on organizational settings or by default when licensed user mailboxes are created:

1. Mailbox litigation hold. Our company has a default setting of "unlimited". But when we create new mailboxes, we have to run scripts to setup Litigation hold based on our company settings.

2. Mailbox audit log settings - the default is just 90 days. Most companies like ours need the audit settings to be 365 days.

Can new mailboxes be set to these settings by default:

Set-mailbox -identity MailID@business.com -AuditEnabled $true -AuditLogAgeLimit 365 -DefaultAuditSet Owner, Delegate, Admin

Exchange Mail flow - Manager Approval for PII

We have configured Exchange mail flow rules to route outbound emails containing Confidential information (PII such as ssn, credit card, etc), to the sender's manager for approval/rejection.

This is working as expected.

However we cannot seem to find a technical solution to have emails matching these rules automatically be sent to another manager/person / group, in the event the sender's manager is Out of Office.

The goal is to automated the emails re-routing without having to manually create new rules every time a manager is out of office and cannot approve emails.

Any ideas?

Exchange Message Trace Reporting and e-Discovery

Good Morning from the Pacific Northwest!

Will features to filter emails based on file attachments be available in Exchange Online and e-Discovery?

Currently, if I were to do a message trace for all emails sent by person A to person B with with PDF files, that is not possible.

I also need to create reports of emails sent and received with specific files - i.e. Zip files, Docx files. There are no features in our M365 E3 environment that enable this.

Last Exchange server with AAD Connect

I know there was talk that there has been no update on being able to remove the on-prem exchange server and manage mail objects from the cloud with AAD Connect enabled. Any more details on some of the hurdles you're hitting? We have many small clients that really want to get rid of that honking exchange box!

Outlook Mobile via HMA - current limitations

Hi Ross,

question to you - we are currently migrating from a 3rd party solution to Outlook Mobile using HMA.

While there are some well known limitations, like missing labeling or Draft synchronization - are there any plans to enhance this further? For example Draft Sync or Calendar attachments which have been features in EAS16.1 before.

We are aware your ultimate recommendation would be EXO using HX however even while planning the migration to EXO there will be a huger number of mailboxes which we can't migrate in the next year or so due to various reasons - therefor still looking for investments in this area

Tenant to Tenant Migration

At Ignite the Session "Supporting Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures in Microsoft 365" gave a nice overview about the future T2T-Migration-Capabilities.

I am located in Switzerland and I have tried to walk through the T2T-Mailbox-Migration https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/enterprise/cross-tenant-mailbox-migration?view=o365-worldwide .

Question: does this preview also work in the EU-Datacenters (including the Datacenter in Switzerland)?

The preparation Script definitely seem to be written for US-Locations (especially for the Azure KeyVault-Setup).

We are a large government agency and have more than 60 users to protect from being impersonated as message senders. Is the # of 60 users a tenant wide limitation? We have created multiple policies and each policy have 60 users but it did NOT work. Only 60 users on the first policy get protected. The next 60 users on the next policy did not get protected.

Exchange Hybris and Azure Cloud Provisioning

Maybe a too in depth question for this forum but I have a scenario leveraging Azure AD Cloud provisioning and remove the hybrid exchange configuration allowing a customer to manage the exchange attributes of users directly in EXO rather than having one Exchange server on premises to enable editing of user exchange attributes. My customer wants to decomm all on premises exchange servers.

Is this even an option or am I barking up the wrong tree 🙂

Is the default ban on external forwarding for ATP customers only?

Hi, I've seen contradictory documentation about the new setting that will automatically block external forwarding of mail from a user mailbox (see https://www.vansurksum.com/2020/08/25/microsoft-is-making-changes-related-to-automatic-email-forwarding-for-atp-customers-here-is-what-you-need-to-know/ ). Is this just for customers with ATP or will it impact deployments that are using only EOP?

Exchange Monitoring

at Ignite 2018 some roadmap items have been communicated for Exchange on Prem, one of them was enhanced Monitoring capabilities - as the current SCOM integration of the HM components is far from being optimal.

Any news in that space, is this still on the roadmap & can you share any details?

Is the decision regarding free on prem licensing in hybrid deployments final?

Hi, I saw that there will be no free license to deploy Exchange 2019 on prem for hybrid environments. Is this a final decision? What's going to happen when Exchange 2016 is end of life?
