Call me crazy, if you like...

You can call me crazy if you like, but I find it weird how Windows has not improved, at least in usability, since basically Vista.

To illustrate: All my computers take around 3 minutes to load into windows. And all of them have enterprise quality NVMe drives (work laptop using 7600MB/s, gaming laptop using 8400MB/s and desktop using 7500MB/s drive; The max transfer rate in reality is 780MB/s). So why the hell are they taking so long? From my perspective, the 17 second boot seems like false advertisement.

Now, what might make people think that I am crazy is:

I have been waiting for an solution to make my computers into "standalone dummy machines". Where there would be separate disk for an OS revision, maybe as read-only, that would be updated only with cumulative updates keeping the disk alive for far longer. And an separate disk for registry and updates. And addition for that, an disk for custom software.

I am so tired of having to reinstall Windows each time something goes wrong with settings. Once I had to do it 4 times, to get everything set-up correctly.

The "Settings" (update and registry) disk can be on the same physical drive as custom software. But keeping everything on one disk is just outdated design.

Namely I would like at times to boot up Windows without all the other programs, just to use word or write an email. And that does not exclude the use of Microsoft Account or Onedrive.

In addition, it would be great is there was an quick registry fixer. Where with a push of a button, the registry could be reset to Windows and it's updates. And when an external drive with custom software is connected, upon application/software/game launch, it would check the registry and allow adding/fixing registry entries with one button.

It is baffling how much time people spend on setting up their computers for usage.

But those are my thoughts on making some improvements to Windows. And maybe then, I have an actual reason to wait several minutes for the Windows to boot from an cold-boot.

CrowdStrike Secure Boot Lifecycle Management Content Pack

CrowdStrike has recently released the Secure Boot Lifecycle Management Content Pack. This new feature helps Falcon for IT module users manage Windows Secure Boot certificate updates ahead of these certificates’ expiration beginning in late June 2026.

The dashboard provides an at‑a‑glance view of Secure Boot–enabled devices, showing which systems are already compliant with the updated 2023 Secure Boot certificate, which are in progress, and which are blocked or require opt‑in to a managed rollout. It also highlights certificate update failures that may require investigation.

In addition, overall readiness is summarized through a compliance gauge, while a 30‑day trend shows how pass and fail counts change as remediation progresses. Filters by operating system, server edition, hostname, and update status help administrators quickly identify devices that need action to help ensure systems remain secure after the certificates expire.

The feature also provides management options to opt devices into Microsoft's managed rollout for gradual, tested deployment, and to block updates on hardware with known compatibility issues to prevent boot failures.

Note that this feature is available as part of CrowdStrike's Falcon for IT module. CrowdStrike Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) customers who are not licensed for this module can enable a free trial from the CrowdStrike Store. To learn more about this feature, please see the content pack tutorial video.

I am redirected to the url https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/blocked/
This happens on any computer and any browser. How can I get my account unblocked? I have reached out to Microsoft support 3 times now. My latest discussion I was told to post here.

I was helping users on the feedback hub for PowerPoint. I am guessing that is not something that you want others doing because you blocked me. I know that I posted some future tools that would help other users complete things they were looking for, or maybe it was because I was replying to old posts. Either way I just want to be able to help people so please unblock my account.

What Happens Outside "Active Hours?"

While looking at the features and functionality of autopatch, I'm being asked for more detailed information on behaviors related to "Active Hours", but more specifically what happens outside of active hours.

(Please let me know if additional information is required to answer this)

Example: It's 21:30p, the device active hours are being automatically set (05:00a to 20:00p) and a quality update is discovered and installed that requires a reboot to complete. if I'm still interacting with the host, will it try and reboot because its technically outside of active hours? Will it provide a warning or option to pause, reschedule, etc? What is the expected behavior? Does the windows host recognize that activity is occurring and wait until a specific point in time outside of active hours?

How best can I explain what happens outside of active hours to the rest of the team so they will better understand expected behaviors?

Thank you in advance,

Since we have not yet transitioned to Windows 11, we’ve purchased ESU licenses.

Microsoft provides detailed guidance on activating ESU through various methods — including Intune, phone, Internet, and the Volume Activation Management Tool (VMAT) for clients without Internet access — which is very helpful.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/enable-extended-security-updates

Does anyone know the best method to enable ESU for enterprise workstations using SCCM/KMS, or through any alternative approach?

Thank you in advance.

There is a policy(such as DOMaxBackgroundDownloadBandwidth) to control "download" bandwidth in Delivery Optimization (DO), but currently, there is no policy to control "upload" bandwidth. However, according to Microsoft's doc, the cacheable content that an uploading device can peer is limited to four slots.
If four peer downloads occur simultaneously and the download bandwidth is limited to 1 Mbps, the upload bandwidth is expected to range from a minimum of 1 Mbps to a maximum of 4 Mbps. Is my understanding correct?

We are planning to introduce Delivery Optimization (DO) in our company. Below are the key conditions. Could you confirm if my understanding is correct?

Scenario:
Download Mode: Set to LAN (1)
DORestrictPeerSelectionBy: Set to 1 (Subnet mask) or 2 (Local Peer Discovery (DNS-SD)) to restrict peer selection by subnet
Client A is on Subnet 1 and requests a download
Client B is on Subnet 2 and has the cached file
Network Constraints:
All internet traffic must go through a cloud proxy
We cannot allow endpoints (*.prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com) on the proxy due to regulatory reasons

My Understanding:
Client A and Client B share the same public IP address since they connect to the DO service via the cloud proxy.
If only LAN (1) is set, the DO service considers Client B as Client A’s peer because Client B has the target cache and the same public IP address.
If both LAN (1) and DORestrictPeerSelectionBy are configured, Client B will not be recognized as Client A’s peer since they are on different subnets.

Thanks :)
