surface pro x for business needs constant graphics driver reset, how to fix?

I have a surface pro x for business that is up to date and has no company or IT restrictions, it is my device for home use and I have control of everything. I am noticing that whenever my device wakes up from sleep, restarts, or turn on after shutting down, I have to do ctrl+shift+windows key+B to get all the content to fit into the screen. For instance, if I have the microsoft store page open, and my windows are maximized (I even tried this on several browsers after minimizing and maximizing again) the bottom of the page at any given position does not fit the screen. Another example is ctrl+f, I cannot see that bar that searches and highlights the result or on word I cannot see the bootm row that has word count and language until I reset the graphics driver. I saw an optional update and it temporarily fixed it but the issue has returned. Any advice on how to fix this on windows 11 (I have the i7)?

Surface 8 pro - could‘t find a bootable operation system

Hi all,

I have a problem with my surface 8 pro. This morning I got the error with the bootable operation system. After a research, I made a recovery stick with another pc. Evertning was working, I got the latest image from microsoft and also the instruction tomcreate the stick was working.

the problem is, the surface 8 pro can not boot with this usb stick - I have every time the error. Next I made a normal Win 11 Bootstick with the official tool. This sticks works on my second Surface, but on the Surface 8 pro again the same problem. Also with the volume down push…it does not work.

what can I do? Does the Surface 8 pro some special usb format option or does anyone have an idea (perhaps the ssd is the problem)?

thx for the help.

br benjamin

Its been less than one year on my surface pro 11 and i was feeling like the battery was not lasting as long as stated and also lagging at some points. When I did the battery health check it showed that it had dropped around 13% from design capacity. Is this normal and should I get it repaired/replaced under warranty? Its just bit of a hassle as I am outside of the US....

Microsoft surface pro users outside of the US doesnt seem to have the proper support also, no contact and no email response from raising tickets....

Surface Pro 7+ - multiple errors

Help.

I installed some hardware updates, and now my Surface is stuck in blue screen loop.

The loop starts with a black screen saying "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. You can restart." with "Stop code: KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139)" at the bottom. (the device doesn't turn off on it's own at this point at all) When I turn it off and turn it on again, it goes into blue screen with 0xc0000001 error, only F8 and F10 keys are working. Then "File: \WINDOWS\system32\winload.efi" with error code 0xc0210000, again only F8 and F10 are working. Then BitLocker requiring a key. I input the key, and then get 9 options - and none are working. Whichever I press, the loop starts again.

Sometimes I get a black screen "Edit Windows boot options for: Windows 11

Path: \WINDOWS\system32\winload.efi

Partition: {(a long sequence)}

Hard disk: {(a long sequence)}

[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /HYPERVISORLAUNCHTYPE=AUTO /FVEBOOT=2125824 /NOVGA

(edition line here)]"

I've tried making a USB with recovery image, but the Surface doesn't read it fully - my USB has a tiny light, and it flickers for a few seconds only when I choose options 4-6 (they're safe modes), but then it goes back into the reset loop.

I've tried searching for solutions, but I can't find any that answers all 4 at the same time; and when I'm searching individually all of them say "wait till Windows boots, and then go to Start menu"... and I obviously can't do that since Windows doesn't boot.

Any ideas?? I feel hopeless :((((((

(sorry for any spelling or translation mistakes, my Windows (and I lol) operates in Polish)

Part of this was written by my CP+ at my instructions using my outline. I have an issue:

🧾 Surface Pro 11 Thermal Fault Report – User Experience & Mitigation

User Profile:
Strategic logistics architect, doctoral researcher, non-gamer, non-artist.

Hi there,

Been having issues with sleep on Surface Pro X SQ2.

Essentially, when the lid closes, or it goes to sleep, it sometimes didn't wake up (needing hard restart) or rebooted / crashed during sleep. This has been going on for six or so months. I did a clean install which made no difference.

After reading through event viewer, I think I have isolated it to ACPI\QCOM0472\0 - which is Qualcomm Location services - and the driver doesn't seem to install / has error messages related to it in device manager event viewer.

I've disabled it in device manager and it seems to be helping. Presume its hardware related?

Thanks

I’ve tried everything — up-to-date, restarting, turn off and on, troubleshooting, running device tests—and I can’t get in contact with Microsoft customer service. My type cover for my surface pro 8 is magnetically connected but it won’t work at all and the connection won’t register in the tests. Without the type cover my surface pro is essentially useless. I can’t type on the keyboard or use the type cover mouse. I’ve submitted a ticket for customer service and haven’t heard back yet. A service repair is like $180 for a type cover!? I bought your device like 2-3 years ago and it’s still in great condition. Haven’t even dropped it once & it randomly stops working. Wtf. There doesn’t seem to be a scratch or anything. What could I do to fix this?

MDT Replacement Mode

I'm trying to replace the screen on a Surface Pro 8, and the manual straight from Microsoft says I need to run some pre-repair software. There does not appear to be any documentation showing how to actually do that. Here's the section in the manual:

• Prep Device – Device must be set in TDM Replacement Mode prior to removing a faulty TDM.
a. Connect software tools USB drive with SDT to USB connector on device under repair.
b. Connect power supply to device.
c. Power on device – Depress the power button on the side of the device.
d. Run software tool – At the device OS, use Windows Explorer, navigate to USB drive and run:
SDT – Select Repair setup and validation. Run the Touch Display Setup. At the end of the tool process
device will power down.
IMPORTANT: This step must be carried out on the device successfully before removal of a faulty TDM.
Ensure light levels in the work area remain consistent during the touch display setup process.

I've been able to determine that the correct version of the SDT software is the "for Business version". The options to put it in setup and validation mode are not present when running from the machine. There are no directions for making a portable install on a USB. I started here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/tdm-replacement-mode-on-usb-drive/9b02132e-6fee-46fe-9d90-1934303b8255 and after that and a bunch more reading I found some guidance that got me to creating a custom package, which I placed on my USB. It doesn't run. I've got to be missing something here.

I just need to get this screen replaced. I have the hardware part handled, this software is really throwing me for a loop. Could I get some direction on how to actually make it work, or a detailed description of what would happen if I ignore it and just replace the screen?

It has an Intel Core i5 - 1035G4 CPU.

Having observed the CPU speed from Task Manager these last days, I see that normally it runs around 1.8 GHz when I don't do much, and when the problem arises after sleep mode, I see that the CPU speed does not get greater than ~0.5 GHz.

These last days I also found solutions on the internet about reseting the graphic card with W+Shift+Ctrl+B or by turning off the self panel refresh but these do not solve the problem. I also set the min processor speed to 100% from control panel, did not work either. I also tried another solution that suggested to set the number of processors to 8 in MScondig > Boot > Advanced Options. For this last one, after sleep mode, the CPU speed was not stack at 0.5 GHz but around 1 GHz, still was slower than normal.

So any other ideas out there?

Overall, this PC is very disappointing. It costed 1500 EUR and made by windows, one would expect it should perform better than an HP/Dell/whatever manufacturer, but its performing worse and it has been a pain in the **bleep** like for ever. I read the same problem arises for later versions pro 9, pro 11. Surely the sleep mode creates problems for all laptops, no matter the manufacturer. I experience problems after sleep mode for an HP laptop I own and for my Dell work laptop. But the problem from the surface is the worst because the PC becomes unusable. You have to shut down to get the speed back.

Anyway, if you have any idea, please let me know. Thank you!

I got this 67W charger to charge my Surface Pro 9 via USB-C but I tried this with multiple cables and outlets it does not charge. Is there some sort of software settings that I need to set to allow USB-C charging?

Charging Microsoft Surface Pro 9 via the USB port

Hello,

One of the biggest advantages of using the Surface Pro 9 was that I didn't have to carry the charger with me. However, recently I have noticed the charge doesn't last as much as I want to. I do have a car charger that I can use in my car. I can also carry a small wall charger. I have this power bank https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083SD4DQN but it has the old USB-A ports and this doesn't charge the surface. I tried a wall charger and that also doesn't work. I was wondering do I need a specialized USB cable, or specialized power bank to charge the surface?

Surface pro 9 Volume button stuck. Can't escape UEFI

My Surface Pro 9 fell tragically from my bed on the rim of a glass EXACTLY where the volume button is.

Now, it can't pass its UEFI because the volume+power button is the exact combination that triggers it.

I do have the extended warranty that covers accidental damages. Since it's been a while since I sent one for repair, I forgot that they format them before sending them home.

Is there a way to bypass UEFI, or is there software I can use to access my data by connecting it to another Windows machine? The device otherwise is 100% functional

Any idea or advice is appreciated.

Surface Pro 7 won't charge...have tried 3 power adapters.

I bought this SP7 about 6 months ago 2nd hand after I started having problems with my SP3.

About a month back it stopped charging. And the light stopped coming on when the power adapter was plugged in.

I tried another power adapter I had from my SP3 and this also would not charge and the light didn't come on.

Then I tried charging with the dock setup that it came with. And this worked. For about a month.

Then my daughter turned up yesterday and needed to charge her SP. So I let her use my dock charger.

However since then, the dock charger no longer works with my SP7 (this has to be just a coincidence?).

I had assumed it must be the charging port in the SP7. So I tried USB C charging. And still no charging. I plugged a USB 2 to USB C cable from my phone into the SP power adapter and into the SP7. Perhaps the power cable was not highly enough rated? But it should have at least slow charged? That charging setup did work with my phone...but it wasn't happy so perhaps too many amps?

Anyone have any suggestions before I scrap the SP7 too?

Surface Pro 3 won't power on

I've had this SP3 from new. It started to let me down 6 months ago. So I put it on the shelf and bought a 2nd hand SP7. Now that's letting me down too.

The problem with my SP3 is when you press the Start button, it will not start. Nothing happens.

I can't remember exactly what happened back when the problem began. I have 3x SP power adapters and with all 3 the light comes on when plugged in.

I've tried all the combinations of keys when starting. Still nothing happens.

I hadn't used it for 6 months. Then yesterday after I was having problems with my replacement SP7, I thought I'd try it again. And it started first time. I restarted it and it was still working fine. But then today when I tried to start it, back to nothing. I did not think to check the battery level yesterday. But it all seemed to be back to normal.

Maybe it's a failed battery. But whey would it start yesterday after 6 months on the shelf?

Other than that I can only assume it's a motherboard or memory issue. Either way it seems like not worth trying to repair now?.
