I hate Microsoft with a passion everyday they get more greedy, more incompetent, and continue to force PWA (Websites that pretend their programs so that they can advertise to you within your programs. Just wanted to get that out there how much I hate dealing with Microsoft.

I'm a 20 year Computer tech, so I'm Ok with computers.

Trying to download an image for a customer surface pro 4 laptop.

Download the surface It Toolkit - over the last 2 days it says Creative recovery USB Failed

Every single Time. Tried multiple USB ports, tried re-downloading the image again, tried cleaning the partition and formatting the partition and USB stick.

Do you think that MS would know how to make software usable - absolutely not - they can't even come up with an error message apart from Failed.

Yes it's a 16 GB USB Stick.

Can anyone assist with why Microsoft is so incompetent at basic programs to download images and to give proper error messages apart from a simple Failed when it comes to formatting USB - right after it completes the Validating Image.

Do people on this forum get paid from Microsoft? Or do all of these people simply give out their own time so that MS can continue to focus their efforts on how to make more money while allowing the community to sort out there mess?

I hate you Microsoft.

Surface Laptop keyboard problem

Hi,

I need help for Surface Laptop (7th generation) keyboard issue.

We just received a brand new Surface Laptop (2036 model) from our supplier in France.

At the first start, i choose, in win11 wizard, the "French (Traditionnal, AZERTY)" Keyboard.

The end of wizard and installation went smoothly

But the problem is that when I press certain keys, the caracter that is displayed is wrong.

From A to Z keys it's ok. But some others are wrong. Ex :

"!" shows "_",

Alt-Gr @ displays tild (~),

key "-" "_" displays ")" or "°" (with maj associate).

I check the language, region, keyboard parameters, I see nothing inconsistent.

I've download the Surface Laptop 7 update 26.033.32430.0 msi and installed it. Nothing changed.

I've deleted the 4 keybords in device manager and reboot the Surface. Still the same problem.

I did a factory reset. At the first start, i choose this time the "French (Standard, AZERTY)" keyboard.

Not better... I've download The Surface Diagnostic Tool, but it doesn't help me.

We installed 4 other Surface laptops a few months ago, and we haven't encountered any problems (with the same keyboard).

Does anyone have any idea what the cause of this problem might be? Hardware ?

Thanks a lot for help.

Jean-Alain

Surface Laptop Power Issues?

Hi,

I have a Surface Laptop that’s 5? 6? years old. The other day it acted like it was no longer connected to AC power and shutdown when the battery got low. It was plugged in the whole time. The power adapter lights up when connected to the laptop like there is no issue. I took it to Best Buy to try one of their adapters and they let it sit, plugged in, for 5 minutes but it does not look to be charging. Pressing the power causes it to act like it turns on, but displays a battery on the screen after the Microsoft logo. My only recourse seems to be to ship it to uBreakIFix but I would like to avoid that route. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you,

Mike

Will the 26H1 be available to Snapdragon-powered Surface Laptop 7?

The news mentioned that the next Windows 11 update is specifically for Snapdragon-powered X2 ARM64 PCs. Since Surface Laptop 7 is also using the same ARM architecture, would it be great if these laptops receive the same update so that the performance will be optimized too?

Battery Report Summary – Surface Laptop 7 (Snapdragon X Elite)

Report Date: November 27, 2025

Device: Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, Snapdragon X Elite

Charge Cycles: 9

1. Key Data

Battery Name: SurfaceBattery

Manufacturer: SWD

Design Capacity: 52,330 mWh

Full Charge Capacity: 53,850 mWh

Cycle Count: 9

2. Usage Observations

Despite the battery being new (only 9 cycles), the report shows abnormally fast discharge.

Examples from the report:

On November 25, the battery dropped from 30% (16,340 mWh) to 23% (12,520 mWh) in ~20 minutes of use.

On November 27, during “connected standby,” the battery fell from 77% (41,200 mWh) to 55% (29,440 mWh) within about one hour.

These behaviors are inconsistent with expectations for a new device with full capacity.

. Technical Analysis

Battery authenticity: The data indicates the battery is original (manufacturer SWD, capacity matches design).

Primary issue: The discharge rate is unusually fast and unstable, which is not normal for a battery with so few cycles.

Possible causes:

Defect in the Battery Management System (BMS).

Internal cell imbalance.

Firmware/driver issue affecting power management.

4. Conclusion and Request

The Surface Laptop 7 is showing abnormal battery behavior despite being new and original.

Any idea where this problem comes from? Any solution?

Thanks in advance!

Hi. Would anyone know if Outlook Legacy works on the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 with the Snapdragon Elite chip?

I cant handle the "New Outlook", as it is missing many of the features that I love on the Legacy version. I am on a Mac, and want to switch back to PC, but need to confirm this before I choose Snapdragon or Intel.

Thanks!

Various multiple monitor issues on Surface Laptop Studio (1) since driver updates.

Issues started directly after NVIDIA - Display - 32.0.15.7344 or Surface - Extension - 14.54.139.0 both installed on 2025-‎10-‎21
Issues occur when a second monitor is attached, and either extend or duplicate screens is selected. Using only one screen has no issue. Checked with different cables, bypassing HUB and different monitors. All show the same issues.

Issues are (but not limited to)

3D (Vulkan) applications in non full-screen mode glitch with a triangle like tearing between the frames.

This is a screenshot from a derivate of the Vulkan tutorial. To illustrate the tearing I alternate the clear colour to black and green.

With only one monitor selected (either one) the green flashes as expected. With two monitors, even with duplicate display(!), this tearing which seems to be the presentation not waiting for the chain to finish rendering. Again this was all fine before the update. In borderless full window mode it is okay, as the NVIDIA driver doesn't use the INTEL integrated swap chain.

Clear type tech is not working, and text is chroma distorted. Happens in all apps, including Microsoft ones.

I can literally have an app like visual studio running on the second monitor and the text has serve chroma distortion, and then I change monitor setting to just that monitor and the text is correct. and back and forth.

General glitches on apps when resizing, frames of windows appear for a second.

Could I make a request to Microsoft please.

The Surface 7 snapdragon range of Laptops are fantastic, I cannot praise them enough, everything from a fully laminated screen, keyboard keys that don't go shiny like the Macbook Air, multiday battery life and build quality.

But can we have a little bit more driver and software updates knowledge.

I recently saw a bit of idle activity on my X plus (Desktop) and looked for a new Adreno driver. The Microsoft Surface updater said none.

But then I found a Adreno XI-85 GPM driver version 31.0.121. 0 October 2025

This was obviously newer than 31.0.112.0 June 2025 so I installed it (Unzipped 600MB)

Graphics are now a little snapper and gpu idle hunting has gone.

Now it's just boot looping with the "preparing" bit and then shuts back down. It's been like that the whole day.

I've even tried to get a USB stick to have the requisite livecd/recovery media, but it doesn't the new Surface ARM-based processor.

What can we even do at this point?

I have rebuilt a Surface Laptop 3. I applied the most current firmware update. I applied all Windows updates. As I am typing, keystrokes are randomly missed. For instance, I will press the 'F' key and it may not recognize the key had been pressed. Additional keystokes to the same letter will then work. This is happening on a couple of keys. This is happening on more than one of our Surface Laptops and I don't think it is limited to the Surface Laptop 3. I don't feel it is a hardware issue. Almost feels like an interrupt issue that disrupts the recognition of the key being pressed. Help...

Update on Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.8 X plus

This is a 9 month usage update on my Microsoft Surface 7 Laptop Snapdragon X plus.

This laptop in my opinion is the best snapdragon laptop on the market and I now use it more than my MacBook Air M3.

Reasons -

Battery life is one to two days.

Build quality is excellent.

Thin bezels and thin bottom chin, edge to edge glass.

Keyboard does not look worn and shiny. I do not like the keys on a MacBook Air M3, they look very worn after only six months use,

The magnetic charger connection is very good. Better than the 13 inch USB C charger.

Main usage - Office, internet, emails, PowerPoint, no gaming. The laptop is very fast.

Snapdragon chips are definitely the way forward. Less heat, much more power efficient. Very stable.

I will not be buying an Intel based machine again.

Trouble Activating Ultimate Performance Plan on My Surface Laptop

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to enable the Ultimate Performance power plan on my Surface device. I’ve already used the command powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61, and it shows up in my system. However, when I try to activate it using powercfg /setactive [GUID], I get an “Invalid Parameters” error—even though the GUID matches exactly what was listed under powercfg /list.

My current active plan is “High performance” (custom-made). Has anyone else encountered this issue on a Surface laptop? Is this plan blocked or incompatible with certain Surface models, or am I missing a step?

Would appreciate any insights or tips!

Thank you so much for your attention and participation.

ARM Surface Laptop 7 file paths too long

We just finished a rollout of the Surface laptop 7s with the ARM processor. after a couple of weeks a have a few members of the staff who are ready to throw them out the window because they are running into constant issues with their synced sharepoint library in file explorer telling them they can't save the file because the path is lost since the file path, itself, is too long.

We used to be able to work around this by extending the limitation on characters, but this no longer seems to be an option with the ARM computers.

I am in desperate need of guidance. I would tell them they can use SharePoint online, but let's be real, this is one of those behaviors that's hard to break.

Microsoft Surface 7 XIP Laptop continues to impress.

The Microsoft Surface 7 laptops with Arm Snapdragon chips are a real game changer. Impressive build quality and keyboard keys that do not go shiny like the MacBook Air M3.

My typical usage - emails, internet, Word, PowerPoint, Excel. battery will last two days, no fan noise heard so far.

Good design features - fully laminated screen, thin bezels, thin chin, non shiny keys, reasonably thin, not as thin as M3, but not noticeable, magnetic charge plug with side entry, better than 90 degree MacBook Air M3 plug, upgradeable M.2 2230 ssd, 16 GB ram.

Question - Crucial P310 1TB PCie Gen 4 NVMe 2230 M.2 looks like a good upgrade if more storage needed. However will the Crucial P310 generate more heat ?

Surface User Update February 2025

This is a user update from the UK for Surface 10 core XIP6400 16Gb 512GB 13 inch Laptop.

Almost identical in use to MacBook Air M3 (Apart from OS) but better battery life.

Fully laminated screen with thin bezels.

No fan noise heard so far.

Services disabled -

- Connected user exp and telemetry.

- Dolby Dax

- Windows Search

- All Xbox apps

- SSD indexing.

It looks like the Arm Snapdragon has transformed the Surface Laptop.

A question -

My surface laptop has a 2230 M.2 512GB ssd which appears to be a SDDPTQD 1124 WD. Is there any

benefit in changing to a Samsung 2230 990/991. Would this impact battery life or heat generation ?

ie, The Samsung is better in theory but would I ever notice using MS Office/emails, etc.
