Files from the internet and other potentially unsafe locations can contain viruses, worms, or other kinds of malware that can harm your users’ computer and data. We recently announced that in order to help protect your users, Office can open files from potentially unsafe locations in Application Guard, a secure container that is isolated from the device through hardware-based virtualization.

Microsoft Office 2016 Connections with Office 365 Services

In September of 2018, Jared Spataro, then corporate VP of Office and Windows marketing, had stated: "To give you more time to transition fully to the cloud, we are now modifying that policy and will continue to support Office 2016 connections with the Office 365 services through October 2023."

Is that statement still correct - that is, Office 2016 users will still be able to connect with Office 365 services through October 2023?

Join us Wednesday, September 9 for an opportunity to "Ask Microsoft Anything" (AMA) about upcoming changes to support for Office 2016 for Mac, Office 2010, and Office 2013 connectivity to Office 365 services. The AMA will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Pacific Time in the Office End of Support AMA space.

To join, simply visit the Office End of Support AMA space at 9:00 a.m. PDT and submit a question by selecting Start a new conversation—then do this for each new question.

More Information

On October 13, 2020, Office 2016 for Mac and Office 2010 reach their end of support. After that date, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support, bug fixes, or security updates for either version.

Also, as previously announced, after October 13, 2020, customers will need to be using Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Office 2019, or Office 2016 in order to connect to Office 365 services. Microsoft will not take any active measures to block older versions of the Office client from connecting to Office 365 services, but these legacy clients may encounter performance and/or reliability issues over time.

What is an AMA?

An AMA is a live, online, text-based question-and-answer event similar to a "YamJam" on Yammer or an "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit.

End of Support for Exchange Summary

Just a summary of some of the important things you might want to know about End of Support for all things Exchange.

Exchange Server 2010 - We pushed the date for the end of extended support from Jan 2020 to October 2020, and announced that here - https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/microsoft-extending-end-of-support-for-exchange-server-2010-to/ba-p/753591

We have no plans to extend that any further, so if you still have Exchange Server 2010 in use - you need to get moving. It won't stop working in October but we won't be releasing any more updates, security or time zone patches.

Exchange Online and Basic Authentication is another important one to know about. We will be turning off Basic Authentication in Exchange Online in the future.
