What’s New in the AI Curriculum for Instructor-Led Training

With the recent announcement of changes to the AI certification paths {The AI job boom is here. Are you ready to showcase your skills?}, we also have several updates coming to Microsoft's AI instructor‑led training (ILT) portfolio over the next few months. As part of the broader curriculum refresh across Microsoft Learn, we are releasing new ILT courses that align to the updated AI and Azure AI roles.

The pace of change in AI is accelerating quickly, and this has created an unprecedented release cadence for ILT. Because ILT development, validation, and release follow their own production timelines, ILT retirement dates will not always align with the retirement of the certification. Our goal is to provide high‑quality, instruction‑ready content as quickly as possible while maintaining accuracy and instructional integrity. As a result, ILT retirements and releases may follow a slightly different schedule. We will continue sharing updates through ILT communication channels so that partners and trainers have the most current information.

What is coming

New ILT courses will be released in March and April. Each course will reflect the new skills, role definitions, and learning paths in the refreshed AI curriculum. These updates streamline content, modernize scenarios, and improve the hands‑on experience for learners. Current ILT versions will retire shortly after the updated courses are published, and we recommend adopting the new courses as soon as they become available.

Announcing SC‑5009: Secure AI solutions in the cloud using Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Microsoft Entra

This new ILT is scheduled to be released on March 27, 2026. This course will bring together cloud security and identity content to help learners prepare for the Secure AI Solutions in the Cloud Applied Skills assessment and deepen their Microsoft Entra skills for real‑world scenarios.

What will be included

Two learning paths, one course page:

Learning Path 1 – Focuses on the Azure AI Foundry and Microsoft Defender for Cloud tasks covered in the Secure AI Solutions in the Cloud Applied Skills assessment. Use this path when your goal is to validate skills with the credential.
Learning Path 2 – Adds Microsoft Entra coverage for identity and access scenarios. This content is exclusive to ILT and self‑paced learning and is not aligned to a certification or credential.

Why the split

We want ILT learners to prepare for the Applied Skills assessment while also strengthening identity and access expertise with Microsoft Entra. The second path expands practical coverage for instructors and learners without changing the credential’s scope.

How to use this course

For ILT, trainers can deliver SC‑5009 in two ways depending on their audience and goals:

4‑hour delivery: Teach the core 3 hours of content that prepare learners for the Secure AI Solutions in the Cloud Applied Skills assessment, then use the final hour to administer the assessment itself.
Full‑day delivery: Spend the first part of the day preparing learners for the assessment, then continue with the additional Microsoft Entra content included in the second learning path. This option gives learners both credential‑aligned preparation and deeper identity and access coverage.

Both formats will be supported on the dedicated Microsoft Learn course page, where the two learning paths will be organized for easy navigation.

Who this is for

Security engineers, administrators, and instructors working in Azure who want hands‑on practice securing AI solutions and strengthening identity and access capabilities.

Review the credential overview and study guide for Secure AI Solutions in the Cloud Applied Skills on Microsoft Learn.
Visit the SC‑5009 course page on Microsoft Learn (to be published at least 30 days prior to release). The URL will be in the title plan once live.

We want to share an important update regarding the scheduled retirement of AI-3017: AI for Business Leaders which was announced on November 19^th.

Retirement Date: February 27, 2026
Replacement Course: AB-731T00: Drive AI Transformation in Your Organization (ILT trainer files available December 19, 2025; Learn content available now.)

As part of Microsoft’s commitment to keeping content aligned with the latest innovations, AB-731 introduces significant updates to reflect current best practices and the Frontier Firms framework. These updates mean that the AI-3017 trainer files and Learn content are no longer fully aligned. To ensure learners and trainers have the most relevant experience, we strongly recommend transitioning to AB-731 as soon as possible.

Why this matters:

AB-731 is the future-facing course designed to prepare business leaders for AI transformation.
AI-3017 will remain available until its retirement date, but no further updates will be made.
Continuing with AI-3017 may result in gaps compared to updated Learn content.

Action for Trainers and Partners:
Please begin planning to deliver AB-731 starting December 19. Encourage learners to register for AB-731 to stay current with Microsoft’s AI strategy.

Localized Labs Retiring: What’s Next?

We are implementing a revised localized lab strategy to enhance the learner experience and optimize operations. This decision is based on FY25 data showing 97% of labs were accessed in English and only 3% in localized languages (mainly Japanese). With browser translation quality improving and with its immediate translation capabilities, many learners already now prefer these tools.

Key Changes:

Localized lab content will be retired.

English labs will be the standard. Learners and trainers are encouraged to use browser-based translation, such as Microsoft Edge AI.

Exception: Japanese labs will remain available due to specific market needs. Future Japanese lab environments will be supported as needed.

All new lab content will be published in English (and Japanese as needed), with optional Edge AI translation support.

Transition Timeline:

The phased transition will occur throughout November and December 2025.

Labs with zero localized launches in FY25 will be retired first.

All localized labs will be retired by the end of Q2.

Existing Japanese labs will remain in market for now and will be reviewed in December.

Impact:

Minimal disruption is expected for most learners.

Guidance on using browser-based translation tools will be provided.

Temporary disruption for some AI course labs during Ignite

We expect temporary disruption to several AI course labs due to product changes announced at Microsoft’s Ignite event. During this period, we anticipate that changes to the product may cause labs to be out of alignment. Our team will move fast to update labs, Microsoft Learn content and Instructor-led Training (ILT) files, but there may be a 7–10 day window when some labs do not work as expected.

AI-102T00: Develop AI solutions in Azure
AI-3002: Develop AI information extraction solutions in Azure
AI-3003: Develop natural language solutions in Azure
AI-3004: Develop computer vision solutions in Azure

AI-3026: Develop AI agents on Azure

What to expect:

Disruption beginning the week of Ignite (November 18) and into the following week. We expect all labs to be aligned by November 28, 2025.

Lab fixes will be addressed first, then updates to content on Microsoft Learn, and finally instructor (MCT) slides.

Updates will appear on the ILT Title Plan as they roll out

AZ-900 Will Become Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure

To reflect the evolution of our Fundamentals course structure, we’re updating the course title of AZ-900 to Introduction to Cloud Infrastructure, effective October 31.

Originally titled Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, and more recently Introduction to Microsoft Azure, this course has gradually narrowed its focus. As dedicated Fundamentals courses for AI, Data, and Security emerged, AZ-900 shifted toward a streamlined, one-day introduction to Azure’s core infrastructure services.

The new title brings:

Clearer expectations for learners
Consistency with other “Intro to…” courses

This change will help ensure learners understand what the course offers and how it fits into their broader Azure learning journey. Expect to see this listed as a major update to AZ-900 on the next iteration of the title plan.

MS-700 and MS-721 are currently impacted by a new verification requirement in the Teams Admin center when ordering phone numbers. As such the following tasks can no longer be completed within the labs.

Clear, action-oriented titles: Start with a present-tense verb + subject.
Audience-aware endings:
