AKS on AzureLocal: KMSv1 -> KMSv2

Hey, quick question on AKS Arc — we're running moc-kms-plugin:0.2.172-official on an Arc-enabled AKS cluster on Azure Local and currently have KMSv1=true as a feature gate to keep encryption at rest working.

KMSv1 is deprecated in 1.28+ and we want to migrate to KMSv2 before it gets removed. Since moc-kms-plugin is a Microsoft-managed component we can't just swap it out ourselves.

A few questions:

Does version 0.2.172 already support the KMSv2 gRPC API, or is that coming in a later release?
Is there a supported migration path for AKS Arc specifically, or does this come automatically through a platform update?
Any docs or internal guidance you can point us to?

Issue with Hyper-V VM on Tagged VLAN – Traffic Reaches Local Hosts but Not External Networks

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue getting a Hyper-V VM to work correctly when using a tagged VLAN interface.

I have a test VM configured with a trunk port and a tagged VLAN.

Here is the configuration I’m using:

Set-VMNetworkAdapterVlan -VMName "testvlan" -Trunk -NativeVlanId 2 -AllowedVlanIdList "4"

The strange part is this:

When the VM is on VLAN 4 (tagged), it can reach other resources on the same VLAN as long as those resources are running on the same Hyper-V host.

But if the target resource is outside the Hyper-V host, the VM cannot reach it at all.

The hardware vendor has already ruled out any issue with the top-of-rack switches interconnecting the hosts.

If I reconfigure the VM’s network adapter in access mode on the same VLAN, then all traffic works normally and the VM can reach resources outside the host without any problem.

So it seems that traffic leaves the host correctly only when the adapter is in access mode, not when using a trunk with VLAN tagging. Has anyone seen this behavior before or has suggestions on what to check next?

i am trying to install Azure local on nested Hyper-V VM as test environment, 1 DC, 1 HCI VM and unfortunately i am stuck with an error:

"Type 'ValidateArcIntegration' of Role 'EnvironmentValidator' raised an exception: { "ExceptionType": "text", "ErrorMessage": "The provided account MSI@50342 does not have access to subscription ID \"7187cfd2-689c-4918-b43b-6e767d2bc1eb\". ASH Nvidia Tesla T4 GPU Driver issues

I have a Windows 2019 server running on Azure Stack Hub. For some reason we cannot get the Nvidia Tesla T4 GPU driver to work on Windows. In the same set up, running a Linux server, we can get the GPU driver to work.

The error says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43).

Anyone have any ideas?

The hardware underneath is Dell.

I have tried to deploy the Azure Local cluster based on Stack HCI, but are currently stuck on the Creating Cluster portion.

However the fault it gives is very unclear and says there is a network configuration error however All previous steps where succesfull including setting up networking where I assume it would have failed if it was a networking issue. The name of the cluster would be something else if I where to configure it manually but this name comes from Azure and was validated there.

Compute_Management Intent duplicates and causes workloads to loose connectivity

Hi.

I have a situation where we are running a 2-noded Azure Local 23H2 with the latest april 2025 updates installed.

We have 2 Intents: Compute_management and storage.

On one of the nodes (and only on this node, the other node works fine), Network ATC sometimes duplicates the compute_management intent and creates a new VMSwitch.

The old VMSwitch is still present and changes to Internal mode. The new VMSwitch is external but without the NIC attached.

The issue happens always after node reboot and also if we live migrate any workload to the affected node.

In Azure on the network intent we see the error: physical network adapter not found

Both servers are running identitcal hardware (Lenovo SR650) and the NIC for compute_management is Intel X722-T2 1Gb 2port

We are working with Microsoft support to find a solution but so far Microsoft have only collected logs and we are waiting for response.

I hope that someone here in the community have an idea for a solution.

AVD on Azure Local: Increase memory of Sessionhosts after Hostpool deployment

Hi there,

Is there a best practice for increasing the RAM of the session hosts in an Azure Virtual Desktop host pool?

We are using the autoscaler to start and stop VMs on demand. Since this is an automated process, all the settings changed via HyperV-Manager get overwritten, presumably by the host pool template.

Can someone confirm that I am on the right track and maybe give me a hint or a how-to on how to change the RAM for my session hosts?

Azure Stack HCI 23h2 upgrade & Azure local Resource

Good evening,

After upgrading from 22H2 to 23H2, we encountered an issue where the Azure Local resource in the Azure portal appears as "not connected recently." Additionally, we are not seeing the "Your cluster can be upgraded to the latest version" option, likely due to this connection issue.

Despite successful connectivity tests and extensive troubleshooting, the resource remains unsynchronised with Azure. As a result, we tried deleting the Azure Local resource and re-registering the nodes.

Now, while both nodes are successfully registered and connected to Azure and passing the Invoke-AzStackHciUpgradeValidation , we are unable to find a way to re-register the Azure Local resource to proceed with the "Install the solution upgrade via Azure portal" step.

The only option I see is going through the "Deploy Azure Local" process in Azure Arc. However, I believe this would overwrite existing settings and VMs, causing significant disruption—especially since this is a production cluster upgraded from 22H2.

Is there a way to re-register the cluster and restore the Azure Local resource using existing settings, so we can proceed with deploying the rest of the solution upgrade via the Azure portal?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Need help to understand the Math or how to calculate the VM Live Migration -SMB Bandwidth Limit?

My Environment Details:

Considering RDMA capable - Dual NICs of 25GBPS
Network model of disaggregated, with Storage VLAN1 and Storage VLAN 2 for storage traffic. (No Teaming for Storage adapters).

Considering the above Hardware specs what should be the VM Live migration -bandwidth be?

I have seen this article Optimizing Hyper-V Live Migrations on an Hyperconverged Infrastructure | Microsoft Community Hub. However, it says a limit of 750mbps. I understand that this is for 10gbps Dual NICs. (Manual Set values and no using Overrides via Network ATC).

If there is a similar optimized value for 25gbps NICS, what is the optimized value and how is it calculated?

I see the below table in Microsoft Docs but understand that this is for Converged Model and not for disaggregated.

Is there any resources like this for Disaggregated Network Design?

Part 2:

We have tried to do this via Global overrides to maintain a symmetry across the Cluster.

We have used $Globaloverride.SMBVMlivemigrationlimit in GB. (We did Test out 4, 5,5 GB values)

We cannot add in Decimal values like 3.25 or 3.5 GB here. It's taking only whole numbers.

How do we tackle this? Is this Ideal way to doing it or any better procedure exists without the hassle of manually doing it on all Nodes and ATC Them defaulting it to its own values?

And when we do a clean 23H2 Installation Cloud Based, we see the below value:

How is this calculated?

Part 3:

Is validate-dcb a Valid procedure to validate the 23H2 Clusters?

If Yes, are there any guidelines to tweak the tests in DCB validate Module to suit our requirements?

As per the code, can see that the VM Speed is set to 10gig and I have 25gig NIC cards? Any Knowledge articles that can help with this or any update from Microsoft on validating the 23H2 Clusters?

Azure Stack HCI - adding NIC to Network ATC Intent

Hello fellow Azure Stack HCI Admins,

I currently have a compute_management Intent for my two node switchless cluster with only one pNIC per node (port1) assigned. I now want to add port2 of each node to the intent for redundancy. (See image)

I found this command-set on learn:

I am a bit anxious on running those commands because I already have workloads deployed on that cluster and I don't want to break it.

Issues with Azure stack HCI 23H2 and and NVMe Drives 5520 Series

We recently purchased a Lenovo MX630 V3 Integrated System for Azure Stack HCI 23H2 deployment with 16 x 5520 series NVMe drives (Lenovo NVMe part number is 4XB7A13943/SSDPF2KX076T1O and the server model is 7D6U). We are using version 10.2408.0.29 25398.1085 of Azure Stack HCI.

In the past few days, we have encountered some weird issues. The storage cluster degraded because the physical disks keep going to "Lost Communication," causing the storage volume to go into detached mode. We are using firmware version Lenovo NVMe 9CV10450, which is approved by Lenovo. I see that the newer driver is 9CV10490, and I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience with these drives and if the August update fixed it. The reason I ask is that using Solidigm driver/firmware is not supported by Lenovo.

So far, we have replaced one disk, but when I observed the last problem, it seemed to fix itself.

Azure stack HCI VM resourec under another subscription

I created a hci VM under another subscription (using script, the GUI not support this).
The VM and related resources under this subscription in a separated resource group.
Unfortunately the details of machine are not shown.
This VM is not listed under the HCI cluster\Virtual Machines or Azure VMs. (Only see under resources in RG)

Do you have any idea what is the problem?

As I read this is a supported configuration. (or not?)

NetworkATC Stuck on Validating

After migrating our three-node Azure Stack HCI cluster to intent-based networking with network ATC, the configuration status for some of the intents remains in the "Validating" status. I have two intents: One management and compute. One storage. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot why the configuration status doesn't progress to "Success" status. Fortunately, the cluster is operating normally, but I fear something must be wrong. A cluster validation test doesn't indicate any issues. All nodes are running 10.0.25398

I trying to setup a test environment with two Lenovo servers. I have been running several test validations on the cluster and trying to resolve the requriments one by one.

But now even my validation wont start - press the "Start validation" button and after a while I receive:

Could not complete the operation. 200: OperationTimeout , No updates received from device for operation: [providers/microsoft.azurestackhci/locations/WESTEUROPE/operationStatuses/xxx?api-version=2024-04-01] beyond timeout of [600000] ms

Looking in the Activity log I see:

I have no clue that is wrong, am I out of resources ? and what to do ?, anyone

VMWare VM migration

I'm looking for information on migration of VMWare VMs to Azure Stack using Azure Migrate. According to this https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure-stack/hci/migrate/migration-azure-migrate-hci-overview it is only Hyper-V VM's that is currently available (preview).

What about VM Ware VMs to Azure Stack using Azure Migrate?

HCI Stack 23H2 WMI - RPC Server is Unavailable

After updating to Solution 10.2405.2.7 I am unable to manage my cluster through the failover manager and unable to run cluster validations due to the error RPC Server is unavailable. I have restarted the nodes, confirmed firewall rules are allowing WMI and RPC, and confirmed DNS. Azure and WAC are reporting no issues with the cluster, I am worried about applying the next solution in case this WMI issue will cause issues with the updates.

Any guidance to resolve this fault would be much appreciated
