🌍 Seven Months of #CommunityLuv with MGCI

What a great seven months, MGCI! From Dublin to Dubai, Orlando to Oslo, and Cologne to Cotonou, this community showed up on stages, in hallways, on watch-party couches, and in every "let's get a photo together" moment.  Here's a look back at what we've done together so far. 

🗺️ We showed up around the world 

Community was in motion on every continent. 

Throughout the year, community leaders, speakers, sponsors, and attendees kept the momentum building at events large and small. Whether gathering at Microsoft Ignite, ColorCloud Hamburg, M365 Community Conference, TechCon Chicago, or local Community Days and CollabDays events around the globe, people came together to learn, collaborate, and support one another. From Oslo, Madrid, Lyon, Warsaw, Cologne, and Utrecht to Montréal, Memphis, Mexico City, Tunis, and Cotonou, these connections continued to strengthen and grow, proving once again that community knows no borders.

🎂 We celebrated 25 years of SharePoint 

SharePoint turned 25, and we threw a party worthy of the milestone. From a pre-celebration in Dublin to the global digital event in March (#SPat25), watch parties popped up everywhere, from the SharePoint product team to the Twin Cities User Group. Add a SharePoint Hackathon and the More Than Code short film, and it was a fitting tribute to 25 years of shaping the digital workplace. 

💜 We lifted up Women in Tech and Allies 

Powerful panels lit up shows and conferences around the globe. 

Our Women's History Month General Session spotlighted organizations creating real pathways for mentorship, leadership and inclusion, including TechStylers, the WIT Network, Rockstar Women in AI & Security, Women in Power, The Mentoring Hub, Women in M365, and Women in Cloud. 

Community members are continuing to grow Women in Tech and Allies motions. Kudos to Sharon Smith Founder: The Mentoring Hub who reached out to the CEO of Sessionize and got the Women in Tech speaker directory on Sessionize, making it easier for organizers to build inclusive, well-rounded events. 

🌱 We grew, and welcomed new leaders

We introduced a new cohort of 118 Regional Leaders, community builders, speakers, mentors, and storytellers who will help shape the future of our global community. We also celebrated newly awarded MVPs in our MGCI meetings every month, highlighted the next generation of builders through Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors, and helped grow the Microsoft Community LinkedIn community to over 42,000 followers worldwide. 

🎓 We learned together, every month 

MGCI General Sessions got a fresh, short, focused, community-first makeover and now has a new name: Community Builders Network Monthly Meeting. 

Event Producer Trainings covered the real work behind great events, from sponsorships and speaker selection to run of show, marketing, branding, and yes, even food. 

Mondays at Microsoft with Heather Cook and Karuana Gatimu moved from an every other week cadence to every week, plus the Microsoft 365 Champions Program kept everyone in the know on AI and what's coming next. 

All MGCI meetings, Mondays at Microsoft and Microsoft 365 Champions Program meetings are always available on-demand on the Microsoft Community Learning YouTube channel.

🛠️ We built better tools, because of you 

CommunityDays.org will celebrate four years of events and leveled up again this year with performance improvements, region-aware event listings, calendar sharing, and better sponsor tools, all driven by your feedback. It has become the one-stop shop to discover events, sign up for calls for speakers and get spotted by sponsors.  Thank you to Tom Daly who leads the MGCI Tech and Tools subcommittee and to all the members of the subcommittee who volunteer their time fixing bugs, dreaming up new ideas and creating cool features.

We also said a heartfelt goodbye to Nicki Borell, a Microsoft MVP from Germany a Regional Leader, and a beloved speaker at ECS, and so many community events. We are grateful for everything he gave to this community. Rest in peace, Nicki.

Is Your Community Event Ready for AI Search? Why Every Conference Should Think Beyond SEO

For years, conference websites have been built for people.

Now they also need to be built for AI.

Whether someone asks Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Perplexity, or another AI assistant:

"Who are the top Microsoft 365 speakers this year?"
"Which Power Platform conferences should I attend?"
"Who has spoken about Microsoft Fabric recently?"
"Find conferences where Heather Cook and Chris Hinch were speakers."

…the answer increasingly depends on how well your event website communicates with machines.

Most community events invest heavily in attracting great speakers and creating amazing content. Yet many still publish that content in a way that AI cannot fully understand.

Fortunately, fixing this doesn't require a complete website redesign. A few technical improvements can make your conference far more discoverable.

1. Your Speakers Are More Than Profile Pages

Most event websites have a simple speaker page:

Photo
Biography
Company
Session title

That's useful for attendees—but not enough for AI.

Instead, treat every speaker as a rich entity.

Include:

Company
Microsoft MVP status
Areas of expertise
Social profiles
Personal website
GitHub
LinkedIn
Previous sessions
Podcast appearances
Blog posts
Videos
Awards
Certifications

Using Schema.org's Person markup allows AI systems to understand not only who the speaker is, but also how they relate to the wider Microsoft ecosystem.

Imagine someone asking:

"Who are the leading Microsoft Purview experts in Europe?"

Would your speaker pages provide enough structured information for AI to recommend them?

2. Sessions Should Be Connected

Every session is part of a larger story.

A session isn't just a title and a room number.

Connect it to:

the speaker
the event
Microsoft products
related technologies
learning resources
recordings
blog posts
podcasts
slides

These relationships create a semantic network instead of isolated pages.

3. Use Conference-Specific Structured Data

Many event websites only publish generic Event schema.

Go further.

Include structured information for:

organizers
sponsors
speakers
virtual attendance
physical venue
schedule
recordings
livestreams

The richer the data, the easier it becomes for AI systems to understand your conference.

4. Link to Wikidata When Available

Many Microsoft MVPs, Microsoft employees, authors, and well-known community members already have Wikidata entries.

Adding these using the sameAs property strengthens entity recognition and helps AI connect your website with trusted public knowledge graphs.

This small enhancement can significantly improve how your speakers are understood across different AI systems.

5. Think Like a Knowledge Graph

Instead of asking:

"How many pages does our website have?"

Ask:

"How many meaningful relationships exist between our content?"

A speaker should connect to:

sessions
previous talks
podcasts
blog articles
Microsoft products
companies
certifications
other speakers

Every connection provides additional context.

6. Publish an llms.txt File

More publishers are adding an llms.txt file to help AI systems discover their most valuable content.

For conference websites this could include:

Speaker directory
Session catalog
Schedule
Recordings
Learning resources
Blog articles
Podcast episodes
Sponsor information

Rather than forcing AI to crawl thousands of pages, you're highlighting exactly what matters most.

7. Prepare for AI Agents with agents.json

We're moving beyond chatbots.

AI agents will increasingly search, plan, compare conferences, recommend sessions, and interact with event platforms.

An agents.json file can expose information such as:

searchable session catalog
available APIs
event metadata
supported integrations
registration endpoints
contact information

It's an early but promising standard that helps autonomous systems understand how to interact with your platform.

8. Speed Up Discovery with IndexNow

Publishing a new speaker announcement shouldn't require waiting days for search engines to notice.

IndexNow allows your website to immediately notify participating search engines whenever content changes.

Ideal for:

new speakers
agenda updates
schedule changes
session recordings
blog posts
event announcements

Fresh content becomes discoverable much faster.

9. Your Event Doesn't End When the Closing Keynote Finishes

Every conference generates valuable knowledge:

presentations
videos
interviews
podcasts
blog posts
slides
community discussions

Treat your event website as a permanent learning hub rather than a temporary marketing site.

This approach continues attracting visitors—and AI citations—long after the event has ended.

The Future of Community Websites

Community conferences have always been about connecting people.

Now they also need to connect information.

The organizations that invest in structured data, entity relationships, and AI-friendly content today won't just improve traditional SEO—they'll become trusted sources for the next generation of AI-powered search.

For Microsoft community organizers, this represents an opportunity. Every speaker, session, recording, and article can become part of a living knowledge graph that helps professionals discover your event, your experts, and your community.

As AI becomes the front door to the web, the conferences that are easiest for machines to understand will also be the easiest for people to find.

Scaling Community Impact: M365 Community Day St. Louis 2026

M365 Community Days - Saint Louis (formerly SharePoint Saturday STL) is an annual Community Days educational event. This blog was co-authored by Becky Bertram, Microsoft MVP and Co-Organizer of M365 Community Days St. Louis.

Administrators, end-users, architects, developers, and other professionals that work with Microsoft AI, Collaboration or Cloud Technologies meet to share the latest information for working with Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI, Viva, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, the Power Platform, and related offerings from Microsoft.

The event is a community-focused event dedicated to educating and engaging members of the local technical community. Our event draws upon the expertise of local IT Professionals, Decision Makers, Users of Technology, Developers and Solution Architects who come together to share their real-world experiences, lessons learned, best practices, and general knowledge with other like-minded individuals.

The M365 Community Days - Saint Louis organizing team are looking forward to a great event! #M365STL will be filled with sessions that range in depth from beginner to advanced and will address the various Microsoft 365 and Azure AI ecosystems.

Scaling Community Impact: M365 Community Day St. Louis 2026

What we learned from hosting STL’s largest Community Day to date

On May 1, 2026, the St. Louis Microsoft community came together for M365 Community Day St. Louis - a free, one-day event centered on practical learning, real-world solutions, and meaningful connection across Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform. With over 200 attendees and 36 sessions across multiple tracks, this year marked our largest event to date. More importantly, it reflected a shift in the community itself: attendees aren’t just exploring these tools - they’re actively implementing them in their organizations and looking for ways to go further.

Overall Event Impact

Throughout the day, engagement remained strong. Sessions were consistently well attended, attendees moved intentionally between tracks, and sponsor areas became natural spaces for conversation and collaboration. Participation extended through the final sessions and raffle, reinforcing the value attendees found in both the content and the connections.

Events like M365 Community Day continue to make enterprise technology more approachable. By bringing together professionals across roles and experience levels, we create an environment where ideas can be shared, tested, and applied in real time.

Top Session Highlights

This year’s 36-session lineup reflected both the current priorities and future direction of the Microsoft ecosystem.

Tech Events, Inc. President, Becky Bertram presenting

AI and Copilot emerged as a central focus, with sessions emphasizing practical, day-to-day applications. The conversation has clearly evolved from exploring possibilities to delivering real value through implementation.
The Power Platform track demonstrated how quickly teams can build impactful solutions, often without traditional development resources. These sessions highlighted how innovation is becoming more accessible across organizations.
At the same time, sessions on governance, security, and adoption demonstrated a growing level of maturity. As organizations move faster, there is also a stronger emphasis on managing growth responsibly and sustainably.
Across all tracks, one theme stood out: this community is focused on execution, not exploration.

Lessons Learned

As the event continues to grow, a few key takeaways emerged that are relevant for any community-driven event.

Prioritizing clarity makes a measurable difference.

In a live event setting, attendees benefit most from simple, visible guidance. Clear signage, consistent announcements, and easy-to-find information improve the experience in ways digital tools alone cannot.

The speaker experience directly influences attendee value.

When speakers are well-supported, with clear expectations and straightforward logistics, they can focus fully on delivering impactful sessions.

Designing for flow is essential at scale: As attendance increases, transitions between registration, sessions, and meals play a larger role in the overall experience. Thoughtful planning in these areas helps reduce friction and maintain energy throughout the day.

Preparation enables presence

Completing as much work as possible ahead of time allows organizers to focus on engaging with attendees rather than managing logistics in the moment.

Looking Ahead

Reaching our highest attendance yet and delivering 36 sessions is an exciting milestone for the St. Louis community. It also sets a new standard for future events.

We’re already applying these lessons as we continue to grow, with a focus on delivering an even more seamless, engaging, and valuable experience for attendees, speakers, and sponsors.

Event Wrap - M365 Twin Cities 2025

M365 Twin Cities is the evolution of SharePoint Saturday Twin Cities and is a Community Days event. As a part of Community Days, we’re also aligned with MGCI – Microsoft’s Global Community Initiative.

We cover topics from M365, Copilot, Power Platform and anything related or adjacent to M365 like Azure, governance, security, and a lot more. Our audience also falls across many personas: Users, decision makers, power users, makers, developers, administrators, and others.

As we’re currently preparing for our 2026 event, let’s recap our 2025 event a bit.

2025 Event By the Numbers

Our 2025 event was on Friday September 19, 2025. We had 705 registrations prior to the event with a number of folks that registered at the event. All in all, we had about 380 folks on site (that’s a pretty normal ratio against registrations). The attendee numbers were a good trend from 2024 where we had about 250 folks – steadily growing post-pandemic.

Registration – Ready to go!

The ‘vibe’ was overwhelmingly positive. The higher attendance was immediately obvious and contributed to the higher energy in the room from both attendees and sponsors. As our community usually does, they hit up the sponsors early – even before our opening info session. The coffee and donuts may have helped as well.

We had 31 sessions with 33 speakers across 8 rooms – with the largest session attendance topping out around 110 people! Learning was had by all.

Sponsorships post-pandemic were, and still are, a challenge. The market has changed, the economy has changed, and how sponsors engage with customers has changed. Where we had a little budgetary buffer in the past (pre-pandemic), events are tough to fully fund. We’re hopeful that rising attendee numbers will help bring sponsors back. Our 2025 event had 8 wonderful and fully engaged sponsors.

Locally, we’ve got a really strong Microsoft community – a healthy SharePoint history and M365 adoption across businesses, government, and other organizations. While this is mostly a good thing, it also drives a bit of competition with other groups and events within our community. While this is great for attendees, it’s tough on sponsors and event producers. There’s only so much funding to go around and tight budgets can impact community-driven (and funded) events like ours.

Historically we’ve had 1-2 events a year with 2 events most years. Coming back post-pandemic we’ve tended towards a single event – *and* moved to Fridays – in an effort to make sponsorship funding more reasonable for our supporting vendors.

Next up – Fall Event

Our 2026 event will be held on Friday September 18, 2026. Registration is open. We’re working on session selection and aim to have the schedule up in a few weeks.

Women in Tech Session with Rie Merritt and Karen Lopez on Thursday August 27 at 11:40 AM, A group discussion covering all the different ways you can help support women in tech. As women and allies in tech, it’s our responsibility to pull another woman up the proverbial ladder as you move up a rung. You should reach back through the door when you step into the board room or pull up an extra seat at the table. Learn actionable behavior and concrete steps that they can apply immediately and long term: mentorship, sponsorship, amplification, key phrases to use to take back your voice, and protecting women's voices ideas.

We came together again for another MGCI General Session learning directly from one another and we focused on a topic every event organizer struggles with, building sponsorships that actually work.

Hosted by Heather Cook, this session featured Stacy Burris, Event Strategy Consultant at JSB Events, who brought a unique perspective from her experience as both an event producer and sponsor.

The conversation challenged a common assumption:

We provided additional transition time for organizers and users of these experiences. That transition period is now complete. As we move our shared services forward from their Covid-era deployment into more flexible and sustainable systems there will be no further extensions, no read-only period, and no Microsoft-managed archive after retirement.

Our User Group and Event Leader experience on the Microsoft Technical Community will meet some of the needs previously served by these experiences in a secure and compliant fashion. We will continue to review other opportunities to provide Microsoft-hosted solutions for our community at large.

What is happening on August 6, 2026

All services provided by the tenants (e.g. Teams, SharePoint sites, OneDrive, Power Platform, and email) will be turned off. All accounts will be removed, and @msftcommunity.com & @msft365edu.com email addresses will stop working.
Recovery of anything removed will not be possible after that date.
No data will be retained by Microsoft after retirement. Anything you need must be exported by you to a new location of your choice.

Questions?

Direct all questions to cmtymigration@microsoft.com. The support@msftcommunity.com and support@msft365edu.com mailboxes are being decommissioned along with the tenants and will not be available after August 6.

Thank you for the work you have done in these communities. Together, we provided essential infrastructure during stressful times and beyond. Our committment to community remains, though the tools are changing. Export anything you want to keep. The export window closes at 5:00 PM Pacific on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Affected resources will be read-only after that time and deleted after August 6.
Move your User Group to the Microsoft Tech Community. Our recommended destination for ongoing user-group activity is https://techcommunity.microsoft.com. The Microsoft Tech Community provides a user group experience with discussions, blogs, event spaces, member roster, and messaging — all under your control. Onboarding details are available at https://aka.ms/mtc/usergroups.
Plan for additional usage. Email hosting, meeting hosting and document collaboration are out of scope for the Microsoft Tech Community. Microsoft is not providing migration assistance or alternative hosting for these scenarios. Depending on your group or event needs you might consider one of the available Teams or Microsoft 365 options at Compare Microsoft Teams Pricing
Update external links. If your group’s website, social profiles, or event listings point to msft365edu.com or msftcommunity.com resources, update them now. Those URLs will stop resolving after retirement.
Update account usage. If you are using your @msft365edu.com or @msftcommunity.com accounts in other services (e.g. ownership of event or call listings on www.communitydays.org) ensure you transfer ownership to a new account.
