Now, leaders and IT admins with access to the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard can launch Viva Pulse surveys directly to gain insights into how Copilot impacts their workforce and plan their AI readiness, drive adoption, and measure their ROI.

Launch Pulse surveys from the Copilot Dashboard to capture sentiment about Copilot

Copilot sentiment data from the Viva Pulse integration into the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard is live!

Viva Pulse integrates into the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard to provide a way for organizations to capture sentiment data that helps leaders measure the effectiveness and usage of Copilot. With a research-backed template, Viva Pulse enables leaders and IT admins to send surveys to capture feedback quickly from their teams and requires minimal admin setup to get started.

There are two ways for leaders and IT admins to capture sentiment about Copilot from their teams:

Launch a Copilot impact Pulse survey from the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard
Launch a Copilot impact Pulse survey from within Viva Pulse

Viva Pulse survey results for the Copilot impact template will be automatically shared to the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard. At this time, individual Copilot impact sentiment will not be joined to behavioral metrics in Viva Insights Analyst Workbench. Look for individual Copilot impact Pulse results in Viva Insights Analyst Workbench in the future.

If users have not been granted access to the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard, the capability to launch a Pulse survey from the Copilot Dashboard will not be available to them. Learn more about providing access to the Copilot Dashboard here.
Ensure your tenant has assigned licenses from the Viva Suite or Viva Workplace Analytics and Employee Feedback for Pulse survey results to be automatically integrated into the Copilot Dashboard.

From Feedback to Action: How Viva Pulse Empowers Managers at Microsoft to Drive Employee Engagement

In fall 2023, the Viva Pulse product team collaborated with Microsoft’s HRBI (HR Business Insights) team to develop a strategy for continuous listening using Viva Pulse. We designed a comprehensive employee data collection approach that includes the existing semi-annual Viva Glint engagement survey, supplemented by new, manager-driven Viva Pulse surveys in the interim.

The HRBI team created an organization-specific pulse survey template tailored for managers at Microsoft. This custom template was designed to help managers regularly check in on their team’s progress on the focus areas identified from the previous Viva Glint engagement survey cycle and to make any necessary adjustments to their action plans. Six weeks after the release of the Viva Glint engagement survey results, in early 2024, the HRBI team sent an email to all managers, encouraging them to use Viva Pulse to act on their Viva Glint engagement survey feedback.

Following the communication, Microsoft conducted a research study with managers who used Viva Pulse to learn more about the effectiveness of the tool to support actioning. From the study, the manager participants highlighted the importance of acting on survey feedback to build trust and demonstrate that leadership listens. They emphasized the value of regular surveys to provide leaders with ongoing insights and maintain connection with their teams in between survey cycles. Additionally, they see surveys as a tool to reinforce organizational culture, unify the team, and communicate that employee opinions are valued and impactful.

When the next Viva Glint engagement survey was released, the Research team re-connected with some of the manager participants to follow up on their Viva Pulse experience and any impact it may have had on their Viva Glint engagement survey experience. The Managers noted a significant increase in response rate in their interim Pulses and Glint engagement survey.

One manager participant was unable to review his direct team’s fall 2023 Viva Glint engagement survey scores as responses were too low. This round – 88% responded. He noted it was because of the continuous listening and action taking. He said, “I'm just taking the time from those Pulses and bringing them up on team calls and immediately sharing the results. The higher result happened; I believe [it is] from people being more familiar & comfortable, developing that muscle with the process.”

The manager participants we spoke to attribute these response improvements to Pulse building trust within respondents, further emphasizing that their feedback is being heard, and action is being taken. Additionally, these manager participants took the time to process the Pulse data after each survey, share it with their team, and create an environment for discussion, which we believe is crucial to closing the feedback loop.

Another manager participant noted, “Pulse is a great way for people to know that leadership is doing [things] or trying to do [things]....It signals that we're not just doing this because [our CEO] wants us to do all these surveys and check sentiment...No, we're doing this independently.” Managers appreciated the opportunity to seek feedback directly, instead of waiting for the next engagement survey to receive sentiment from their teams. They found Viva Pulse’s stock templates and question library particularly useful as a starting point, and by customizing the survey to match their team’s needs and focus areas, the managers were able to gather insights during critical moments.

As this initial experiment concludes, the Viva Pulse team will continue to invest in Viva Pulse as a follow up to engagement surveys. With deeper integrations planned between Viva Pulse and Viva Glint, we aim to support manager enablement in driving employee engagement, culture, and inclusion. Our goal is to develop Viva Pulse in a way that empowers managers to take ownership of driving employee engagement.

Template & Question Management

Admins are now able to customize the survey templates and questions for all users within their company, including creation of new templates and questions for your organization! Admins, please check out this learn document for more information about how to get started with this new capability.

Confidential 1:1 Conversations in Viva Pulse Reports

Our research indicates that the most important need for authors once their Pulse closes is to be able to gather additional context based on their reports. Viva Pulse authors can now respond to open text responses in their Viva Pulse reports by having 1:1 conversation with participants, who can respond in an unidentified way. This new capability will help authors gather more context about the open text responses and decide on the next steps. This capability is currently in Private Preview; if you are interested in participating, please comment below.

Viva Pulse Card in Connections

Does your organization use Viva Connections? If so, we’re excited to announce the very first integration between Viva Pulse & Viva Connections. Viva Connections Operators can now add a Pulse card to the Connections Dashboard, enabling licensed Pulse users to easily access Pulse to create feedback requests and review results.

New Templates and Questions

Customers are seeking well-written survey questions to help them understand a wide variety of timely topics for their teams and organization. We are releasing 32 new questions focused on uncovering opportunities to improve workplace dynamics, personal development and employee engagement. Additionally, we are releasing 3 new templates to help authors better understand and drive performance empowerment, townhall meeting effectiveness, and progress after Glint surveys.

Viva Pulse Requests for Large Audiences

Customers have shared the feedback that they would like to send Pulse requests to larger audiences, for example after Town Hall meetings within their organization. We heard you! Pulse requests can now be sent to large audiences, up to 10k. We will be increasing this limit to 100k in July. Users can send requests to M365 groups where they have the appropriate ‘send’ privileges.

Scheduled Pulses

Survey authors can now schedule both a single and a recurring series of Pulses! This means users no longer need to create and send their Pulses in one sitting or remember to come back into the Pulse app to send their survey to their teams. Click here to learn more about this new capability.

eDiscovery & M365 Audit support for Viva Pulse

Global Administrators and users with elevated privileges can now export Viva Pulse data via eDiscovery premium capabilities in Microsoft Purview. Administrators can also view the event log for Pulse events as part of Audit capabilities in Microsoft Purview. You can find more information about Pulse audit events schema here.

Hi MS Viva Community,

I have been looking into Microsoft Viva across the board, but specifically looking at Pulse and Glint as a solution for deploying and tracking employee reviews. We have been using a combination of Forms, Excel and BI to carry out this process. I'm working if Pulse and Glint can be a cleaner more turnkey solution than what we have been doing.
