I cannot sync Samsung Gallery with OneDrive

I recently changed my password to outlook and since then my photos sync between gallery and onedrive stopped working. It says I need to sign in again. I did so, I got logged in with the work flow and then I can see only half empty screen asking for permissions between Samsung account and Microsoft. I cant proceed or do anything else than just close the app.

It's galaxy S25 ultra, 8.5 one UI. Checked on my other device and it's exactly the same.

Screenshot is here:

https://imgur.com/a/D87FNP3

OneDrive app synchronisation

I added a folder last night to my OneDrive on my computer. It synchronised to the cloud. If I share the link to this folder, it works perfectly. However, if I open the app, the folder does not show (even after 24 hours). Searching for the folder name (which takes forever btw) yields the right folder.

Why is the folder not visible in the place where it should be?

And why does the search yield zillions of results instead of just 1?

With subscription, does recycle bin second stage show preiously deleted items

Hi There:

I've filtered through a good portion of the discussions, but have not seen this particular question Sorry if I missed it: I have a basic non-business OneDrive account. A couple of days ago I deleted a file in the recycle bin by mistake. With this basic account, I do not have access to Second Stage. If I started a temporary Microsoft 365 subscription or business account, Second Stage should then be accessible. My question is, would I be able to see previously deleted files in Second Stage, or would it be empty by default since it is a new subscription?

Making Mac OneDrive Faster and More Reliable

OneDrive on macOS is getting a major update to how it syncs! The Native Sync Engine is rolling out to Insiders today with version 26.098. It's up to 2x faster on initial sync and on-disk state changes, uses less CPU, memory, and battery, and removes the hidden cache folder that's been the source of most reliability issues since 2022.

It's the latest in an ongoing effort to make OneDrive feel native on Mac. Earlier this year we shipped a redesigned Activity Center with Liquid Glass and native dialogs, and the Native Sync Engine is a major step in that journey.

The cache folder problem

When we moved OneDrive to Apple's File Provider platform in 2022, we needed a way to bridge the existing sync engine with how File Provider expected things to work. Broadly, there are two parts to OneDrive sync: the sync engine itself, and the code that OneDrive uses to work with files. To support File Provider, we had to change how OneDrive interacted with the file system. However, to reduce risk, we decided to use a hidden cache folder that mirrored your OneDrive contents, so the sync engine could remain largely unchanged.

That cache folder solved the immediate problem and unlocked features like Known Folder Move. Over time, however, feedback and telemetry showed us that it was root cause of many of the reliability and performance issues users have reported since. The Native Sync Engine removes it.

What’s changed

Over the past several years, we’ve been working behind the scenes on the Native Sync Engine. Building it required us to completely rebuild large portions of our code and build a new sync platform that allows OneDrive to work better with the File Provider system.

The Native Sync Engine provides the fastest, most reliable experience we’ve ever delivered on the Mac. It has a simplified architecture, eliminates entire classes of errors, and integrates more deeply with macOS. In our performance testing, the new system is about 2x faster for initial sync and on-disk state changes. It also uses fewer system resources, helping preserve your Mac’s battery life while improving overall responsiveness. We’ve also put the new system through multiple tests that simulate usage well beyond what the average user would ever do, and it has held up extremely well in those scenarios. It’s a massive improvement, and one we are very excited to bring to you.

On the surface, the Native Sync Engine looks and feels very similar to what we had before, but there are a few important changes. Let’s walk through a few of them.

Hidden folders no longer hold data

OneDrive's hidden folders now contain metadata only. Your file data only lives in the OneDrive folder you interact with directly.

There are a few cases where a copy of file data will exist in the hidden folder:

Files you've created or changed that haven't uploaded yet. The copy is removed once the file has fully synced to the cloud.

OneNote shortcuts and similar "link" file types. These are typically a few hundred bytes at most, and we retain them in the hidden folder indefinitely.

Some kinds of macOS packages, such as GarageBand files, .app bundles, and certain older iWork files. Copies of these files are retained for longer than most files.

The Native Sync Engine's metadata folder, for a consumer OneDrive account with about 10,000 items, all available locally. Only using a little bit of space for metadata!

Files and folders are always browsable

Files in a folder used to be created on disk only the first time the folder was accessed. That led to Finder showing "Loading..." while you browsed and apps hanging while they waited for folders to materialize.

Now, every folder and file is always browsable on disk. Navigating your OneDrive folder feels like navigating any other folder. It’s snappy, responsive, and just works.

Note that Files On-Demand is unchanged with the Native Sync Engine. Files you haven't opened remain online-only unless you either open them or mark them Always On This Device.

External drive support

The Native Sync Engine also supports external drives, such as USB drives you can plug into your Mac. If your system and your external drive meet the requirements, all of your files and OneDrive's metadata folder will be placed on this drive. On older versions of macOS and on drives that don't meet the requirements, your files and OneDrive metadata will be stored on the home volume.

Syncing shared folders and libraries

If your organization has disabled the “Sync” button on SharePoint and your users are using “Add shortcut to My Files”, you can skip this section, as you are already in the ideal state!

If you are still using synced libraries, each synced library now appears as its own root in the Finder sidebar, instead of nested under a single tenant entry. Add shortcut to OneDrive remains the modern way to access shared content. Admins can hide the Sync button via aka.ms/HideSyncButton.

Identifying the Native Sync Engine

You can identify whether your Mac is using the Native Sync Engine by inspecting the OneDrive version in the Preferences dialog:

If the version ends with a value such as "(26K)", you are running the Native Sync Engine.

If the version ends with the version of macOS, you are not yet running the Native Sync Engine.

Mac Sync Settings showing the version number, including the Native Sync Engine build.

Rollout

Starting today, we’ll be gradually rolling out this new experience to our Insiders audience. This rollout will take several weeks to complete. If you aren't already in Insiders and want to try the new update, simply open OneDrive preferences, click on the About tab, and check the box to join the Insiders program.

Your Mac will upgrade to the Native Sync Engine automatically when it receives the update. It might take a couple of minutes for OneDrive to complete the upgrade, and a little while longer for File Provider to finish with the upgrade, but you can still use your OneDrive while this is taking place.

We would love to hear your feedback, good or bad. Just click “Send Feedback” in the OneDrive Activity Center and share your thoughts!

11 thousand sync errors!!

Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with an issue in Onedrive for the past couple of days. I think (but can't be positive) that it started when I tried to 'free up space' on my desktop PC. Since then a large number of files have been flagged with a red "x" with the error message that "the name or type isn't allowed". The files in question range from .pdf to .docx, .stl, etc. There doesn't seem to be any obvious reason why I'd suddenly get this message, and none of the files contain restricted characters. Also, I can download the files without issues, and that seems to clear the 'x'. I guess one solution is to go through and download all these files, but there are 11k such files. Yeah, hoping for another solution.

To date I've tried pausing and unpausing the sync; unlinking and re-linking my account; deleting the cache files; deleting and reinstalling Onedrive. Onedrive was also crashing regularly, though reinstalling seems to have at least fixed that for the moment. For what it's worth, I'm also syncing to my laptop, without issue (though won't be 'freeing up space' anytime soon :) ). Everything also seems fine online.

I guess I could just leave it, as the files do seem to download ok, but this feels really flaky and I'd really like to resolve the issue.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any advice anyone might have.

Hi everyone,

The Microsoft Learn documentation for configuring the OneDrive sync app on macOS currently contains an incorrect plist example for the DefaultFolderLocation setting.

Documentation page:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/deploy-and-configure-on-macos#defaultfolderlocation

In the “DefaultFolderLocation” section, the current plist example shows the DefaultFolder key as a dictionary:

<key>DefaultFolder</key>

<dict>

<key>Path</key>

<string>(DefaultFolderPath)</string>

<key>TenantId</key>

<string>(TenantID)</string>

</dict>

This format does not work correctly when deployed as a managed preference/configuration profile.

The setting starts working when the DefaultFolder dictionary is wrapped in an array, like this:

<key>DefaultFolder</key>

<array>

<dict>

<key>Path</key>

<string>(DefaultFolderPath)</string>

<key>TenantId</key>

<string>(TenantID)</string>

</dict>

</array>

Please update the Microsoft Learn documentation to include the array wrapper in the DefaultFolder plist example.

The current Microsoft Learn example is confusing because administrators may deploy the documented plist exactly as shown, but the setting does not appear to work correctly until the array wrapper is added.

How to modify which folders to backup on android onedrive app

Currently my Android OneDrive app backs up photos from many different folders as can be seen in screenshot below in section "Back up device folders". How can I modify this list? It seem it ends up backing up screenshots too which I will like to remove along with many other unknown folders. Here is the screen shot:

https://i.postimg.cc/9M98hGsM/image.png

(I uploaded to another since this forum's thread editor kept saying "Media upload in progress. Try again in few moments.)

OneDrive Taking up space on C: even when nothing is being kept on device.

Recently got a new device and had all my files on the previous device synced to my OneDrive. The C drive has about 120 GB of my data (including OS) but when I check my Disk space, I only have 5GB remaining out of 256. However, OneDrive seems to be taking about 150 GB on the disk even though all the files have the cloud icons on it.

I have a user with sync issues getting Error code: 0x80004004. It will not let me disconnect Onedrive to reconnect it. There is no work or school account tied to the device. Attempted to connect account but did not resolve the issue. Already tried to repair but that did not work either. I ended all OneDrive processes and refreshed the File Explorer and no changes. Not sure how to fix the issue. Its a local user, no domain. Account has a standard license.

One Drive options disappeared in file explorer

As a small business we change the color of folder in our one drive so everyone knows the status without having to dig into the folder to figure it out. We have been able to right click the folder and go to "One Driver" and there was a folder color option. That option is no longer there. We can still go to the web app and change the color which does change in file explorer but this becomes a real pain when you are doing a bunch of these every day. I have done a lot of things I have found online but still can not get this option back. It has vanished from multiple computers as well as every account on my computer. This does not see to be a server side issue but rather an issue with the newer release of One Drive from what appears to be released last week. How can we fix this or is there a way I can go back to a previous version of One Drive where it worked?

Hello everyone. On my company computers there is a name listed under "People" and this individual has shared a file with me (by mistake I assume). Through a lot of digging I finally found out he is an attorney and it was paperwork from some case he had worked on. I don't know him and whatever the docs are have nothing to do with me. The secretary I talked to didn't seem to care and said, "I don't believe it's confidential. Just ignore it." I don't want to ignore it! Every time I log on there it is. It's intrusive! And before you all say just hide it, No, There should be a way to not automatically accept unwanted shares.

Serious Abuse of Microsoft/OneDrive Email Infrastructure for IRS Phishing Scam

I want to report a very serious phishing/security concern involving what appears to be Microsoft/OneDrive email infrastructure.

On Sat, May 2, 2026 at 11:03 PM, I received a phishing/scam email pretending to be an IRS tax notice. Today is May 17, 2026, and I am posting this because this issue is extremely concerning and could easily fool many users.

The alarming part is that the email was sent from:

email address removed for privacy reasons

The email contained fake IRS-related warnings such as:

“URGENT: UNVERIFIED IRS 2026 TAX DOCUMENT”

“Final Reminder”

“Immediate Attention Needed”

“Review Tax Document”

It attempted to pressure users into clicking a fake “Review Tax Document” button.

What is deeply concerning is:

The sender appears to come from an official Microsoft domain (notificationmail.microsoft.com)

The branding and formatting look legitimate

Non-technical users could easily trust and click this

AOL itself displayed a security warning and disabled the links

My questions to Microsoft are:

How is it possible for phishing emails to originate from or appear to originate from notificationmail.microsoft.com?

Is Microsoft infrastructure being abused?

Were compromised Microsoft/OneDrive accounts used?

Why are such emails passing authentication checks strongly enough to appear legitimate?

This is not a normal spam message. This directly impacts trust in Microsoft notification systems and can lead to credential theft or malware infections.

I hope Microsoft investigates this seriously and explains how such abuse is possible from a Microsoft-associated notification domain.

Users should:

Never click such links

Verify tax notices only through official government portals

Carefully inspect email headers and domains

Report suspicious Microsoft-branded phishing emails immediately

Blair Glennon almmicrosoft Microsoftyan
