Migration of existing DLs and DDLs to M365 Groups

Hello Everyone,

We are currently having all our DLs and DDLs in Exchange Online, all users in our org have E5 license. We are planning to move all DLs and DDLs to M365 groups to change for better approach for communication.

Can someone help me where I can find the step by step guidance for it?

My main task is to identify what can broken by doing this migration?

Tenant-to-Tenant Migration with Orchestrator – Technical Overview (Microsoft 365 | Preview)

Tenant-to-tenant migration with Orchestrator in Microsoft 365 introduces a native, API-driven, and highly validated approach for cross-tenant migrations. It is designed for enterprise scenarios where sequencing, dependencies, and governance are critical.

Note: This capability is currently in preview. Features and behavior may change before GA.

Architecture and execution model

Migration is executed through batches (jobs) managed via Microsoft Graph (Beta)
User-level execution: one user failing validation does not block others in the same batch
Mandatory Standalone Validation before migration submission
Date-driven cutover using completeAfterDateTime

Supported workloads (actual scope)

Exchange Online
Microsoft Teams
ODSP (OneDrive for Business)

Important clarification on SharePoint Orchestrator does not migrate shared SharePoint content such as Team sites, Channel sites, or collaboration sites. The ODSP workload covers personal user data (OneDrive) only. SharePoint team/workload sites remain out of scope and require separate tooling or processes.

Critical prerequisites

Identity Mapping (CTIM) is mandatory and must remain stable during migration
Target users must not have Exchange mailboxes or OneDrive sites provisioned before migration
Licenses must be assigned only after Identity Mapping (ExchangeGuid stamping)
Migration apps and service principals (Teams, Meetings, CTMS) must be correctly provisioned
Organization Relationships and Migration Endpoints must be in place
Exchange autoforwarding must be enabled for Meetings migration

Validation and lifecycle

Standalone Validation acts as a full “what-if” check
Key states include:
Cancellation or user removal is possible only before cutover

Post-migration cleanup

After completion, tenants must be returned to a non-migration state:

Remove Identity Mapping data
Remove Organization Relationships
Remove Migration Endpoints
Revoke migration app permissions and service principals
Decide whether to retain or remove MailUsers in the source tenant

Skipping cleanup leaves the tenant in an exception state.

When this approach fits

Mergers and acquisitions
Divestitures and tenant splits
Regulated environments requiring strict control
Scenarios where dependency-aware sequencing matters more than speed

Technical conclusion

Orchestrator is not a one-click solution. It delivers native orchestration, deep validation, and predictable execution when Identity Mapping, licensing order, and scope boundaries are fully understood.

For experienced administrators and architects, it represents a major step forward in tenant-to-tenant migrations within Microsoft 365, even while still in preview.

Unable to change primary SMTP of a group

I have a 365 group linked to Teams, with the primary SMTP address of HumanResources@ (domain) I have been trying to change that by promoting an alias (PTonTeams@(domain)) to be the new primary.

Every time I do this, it reverts to the original HumanResources address.

A bit of searching suggested I try checking the primary address with the Get-UnifiedGroup powershell command, then setting it with Set-UnifiedGroup. Unfortunately, Get-UnifiedGroup shows that the primary SMTP is the desired PTonTeams address. It just isn't showing as such on the Exchange admin page.

If I look up that same group in Azure, it also shows that it has the original address set as Primary SMTP.

Can anyone shed some light on what might be going on and help me change this email address?

Hallo zusammen,

ich hatte bis gestern zwei o365 Lizenzen "Business Essential" über einen Reseller mit eigener Domain. Das wurde mir zu teuer und ich habe am letzten Tag der Gültigkeit über den Admin Account direkt bei MS zwei Lizenzen gekauft "Exchange Online (Plan 1)" und den beiden Accounts zugwiesen.

Leider hat der Reseller gestern dann alles gelöscht, sodass ich keinen Zugriff mehr auf irgendwas habe. Nun versuche ich, den Kauf bei MS zu widerrufen aber niemand bei MS fühlt sich so richtig zuständig.

So langsam bin ich am verzweifeln...

Noch eine Idee vielleicht?

365 Groups - No "From" Dynamic Field

My organization is transitioning from shared mailboxes to Groups sometime in the near future and I updating my flows. I see there is no "From" field included for the trigger "When an email arrives to a group". What are we supposed to do in lieu of that if we need that trigger field?

How to search all groups from within Outlook

Hello, looking to migrate our current Public Folders to 365 Groups. From within Outlook (Classic) our end users can search all Public Folder content (Emails). In Groups it looks like you cannot search all Groups for content, you can only search one Group at time. In the Outlook search options we have tried All Outlook Items, All Mailboxes, etc. but nothing seems to work. Just curious if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations or is this just a limitation?

Missing "Not Replying to Latest Message" Banner in Outlook PWA Groups

Hello Microsoft 365 Community,

I am experiencing an issue with the Outlook Web App (PWA) when using Microsoft 365 Groups. Specifically, the "You are not replying to the latest message" banner is not appearing when replying to older messages within a conversation thread.

Context:

We use Outlook PWA exclusively.
This issue occurs only in Group conversations, not individual inboxes.
Conversation View is enabled with messages sorted by newest on top.
ShowNotificationBar is set to True for the affected group mailbox.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

Checked OWA Settings: Verified Conversation View and Notification Bar settings.
Cleared Browser Cache: Performed hard refresh and cleared site data.
Tested Across Browsers: Issue persists in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
PowerShell Configuration:
- Confirmed with Get-MailboxMessageConfiguration that:
  - ShowNotificationBar = True
  - ShowConversationAsTree = True
Service Worker Reset: Unregistered and refreshed Outlook PWA.

Environment Details:

Outlook PWA (Progressive Web App)
Microsoft 365 Group Mailbox

Expected Behavior:

When replying to an older message in a conversation thread, Outlook PWA should display a banner like:

"You are not replying to the latest message in this conversation."

Actual Behavior:

The banner never appears, even when replying to messages that are several days old.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or found a workaround?

Ownerless group policy broken?

Between November and January, ownerless group policy was broken - users received a 500 error when responding to accept / decline ownership. That was resolved a few weeks ago, but it seems to be malfunctioning again. Users can decline ownership, but when they attempt to accept ownership they are getting an error message 'We are unable to complete that action right now. Please try again later.'

Is anyone else using ownerless group policy seeing this?

Combining Office 365 E1 with Microsoft 365 F3

Hello there,

One of our customers has free Office 365 E1 licenses as they are a non-profit organization. As they need Enterprise Mobility and Security and had a special price for M365 F3, a good solution would be to add a Microsoft 365 F3 license to that same group of users to add functionality but it seems that this is not possible. I can however not find any resource that confirms that. Can anyone confirm if this is possible or not and where I can find some documentation on this?

Outlook Group Can't Reply All

I have created an Outlook Group Email, but when the recipients receive the email, they are not able to "Reply All." The reply only comes back to me and not the entire group. How do I change this so they can respond to everyone in the group?

Outlook groups - how to send emails from Groups

Is there a way to send emails from Microsoft 365 groups similar to distribution groups/security groups?

I need to use a specific group to send emails rather than individual email addresses

I have added the email address to my "From" section but it says I do not have permissions to send from the specific group. I own the group and can't see any option in the group to add permissions so looking for advice on what to do next?

Microsoft 365 Groups Public Roadmap

Is there a public roadmap for Microsoft 365 Groups.

Mostly everything seems straight forward with Microsoft 365 Groups, but I have a large subset of employees who are resistant to change to Microsoft 365 Groups because the groups tab in Outlook Web will not search the files or calendar events in Outlook, will only search mail within the shared mailbox. If there is a public roadmap I was hoping to see if anything will be changing with the product or if its mainly stuck the way it is.

A user cannot access her Groups in the Outlook online version and on the Desktop version. When she clicks on a group, she gets the error message: Your request can’t be completed right now. We also tried from the New Group website, and it is the same error. Can anyone help out?
