Optional updates tab isn't working on windows 11.(After I've clicked on optional updates under windows update, settings app is automatically closed.) I've more than 600 GB available space. I'm using windows 11 version 21H2. I've already run the windows update troubleshooter. That also said "we couldn't identify the problem". Then I've did following steps:

1. Run "Command Prompt" as administrator.

2. Type "sfc /scannow".

But that is a temporarily solution.(Because after I'm doing that only 1 time Optional updates tab was worked.)

I have exactly the same problem, the update downloaded some Realtek drivers but when I click on Advanced -> Optional Updates the window freezes for about 30 seconds then it close.

Also I've reinstalled windows 11. But still I've the same problem.
I've contacted windows technical support & They said this problem is a bug. Then I've gave a feedback to microsoft in feedback hub. I hope they will fix this bug.

I too am having the same problem.... Have you had any luck fixing it?

Click optional updates and it just closes the settings window???

thank you,

Scott

@KingElephant I haven't any idea to fix this problem. I hope windows 11 future quality updates will fix this issue.

I think Microsoft will kick out an update for that Bug :bug:

Solution
Until Microsoft fixes the problem, here is the workaround: type 'Optional Updates' without the quotes in the 'Find a setting' search box on top left corner.
Thank you! appreciate the work around!
@Andrew_Albright_21 You are a genius! So simple solution to such a weird problem. Worked as a charm. Thank you!

@Andrew_Albright_21

Excellent solution, worked a treat, just typed in the search box and hey presto there is my optional update

Thanks
