As you can see at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/517537/windows-10-failed-boot-bsod-after-loading-... the KB5005033 update is causing a fatal "page fault in non paged area" BSOD on some machines--including my desktop.  What steps are being taken to deal with this problem?  I don't want to be forced to leave updates off for a prolonged period but I obviously cannnot "work around" this problem in any way other than restoring (yet again) my early August Acronis image and shutting off updates until this is fixed.

Some good news—I think.  The first thing I did when I got the August 7 image of my system drive restored again last evening and working well enough to do anything was to edit the group policy controlling automatic system updates to give me notice and the right to decide whether even to download a particular update.  This at least would let me not install updates until AFTER I am sure I have a working Acronis image for that point in time.

I was quite upset when I noticed that two updates, including a periodic “Cumulative Update,” had installed anyway.  I was very worried that the cumulative update might include the KB5005033 bug.   Apparently it did not.  Things eventually seemed to work refreshingly normally as I began setting the restored version to doing all sorts of app updating, etc.  I just performed the acid test.  I did a shutdown and reboot—no complaint about page faults!  So perhaps I am past this ordeal for now.
