Tried reporting this in 'Your private feedback' in the apps store, got a nonsensical reply, have changed my feedback, but the character limit is too restrictive and I hate typing on the phone anyway, so ...
The display of apps IN folders changed release before last and has remained changed in the latest beta (6.2.200802.90615). It's bad.
Previously, if opening a folder with 'Open folders full screen' set to ON, in the folder it would show apps in a display of 3 rows of 3 columns, so up to nine apps at a time. If I have say 14 apps in the folder, on opening it I would see the first 9, and would scroll down to a second page in the folder of the last 5.
Since the release before latest it all changed. The majority of my folders it displays 3 rows of only TWO columns, so only up to SIX apps per page in the folder, while for some strange reason a few folders open showing 2 rows of 3 columns, so still only 6 (a particular folder consistently shows either 3 x 2 or 2 x 3, but I cannot see what decides which for each folder). So if a folder contains 14 apps, instead of displaying them over 2 pages as before, one page of 9 then one of 5, they are now split over THREE pages in the folder, two of six plus a third page of 2.
Opening folders when 'Open folders full screen' is set off has also changed. I didn't usually have this set and don't have screen shots of all my folders open like this to refer back to (which I do with open folders full screen on), and can't remember how many columns it used to display, but it was a lot, and It used to display e.g. 14 apps on one screen with no scrolling, but set to this now EVERY folder now only shows the apps in the folder with only TWO columns, so lots of scrolling in this display mode in folders when there used to be none.
Either way it's displaying many fewer apps in a view in an open folder, so requiring a lot more scrolling than it used to. Which is BAD.
I got a developer response in the Google apps store saying:
Hi, please adjust home screen layout to adjust folder layout dynamically. Let's know if you have any further queries, thanks!
Eh? I read that as misunderstanding me to be talking about the arrangement of the folder icons on the home screen pages, when I'm not - I'm taking about the display of app icons in an opened folder. But if it means the display in the folder should match the icon layout set for the home screen, then it doesn't. Under the settings for Home screen>Icon layout and size I have it set to 4 columns and 5 rows, which is fine, but in an opened folder I'm getting 3 x 2 or 2 x 3 with it set to open folders full screen (which I want), or just two columns and a lot of scrolling if not set to open folders full screen (which I don't).
So, please, either return it to how it was, 3 x 3, when set to open folders full screen, or add a setting where the user can specify number of columns and rows in an open folder.

Are you developers deliberately trying to drive users round the bend?
Well, this latest update has evened one thing out - ALL folders now open showing just two columns of 3 rows, as opposed to the 3 x 3 with open folders full page and lots x lots with not open full page it used to be before two days ago. Will you PLEASE restore the old behaviour or allow user choice - folders opening just 2 columns by 3 rows fill page is hugely wasteful of space and requires far too much extra scrolling.
But while I'm at it, ever since ML 6 I'm being driven mad by the way I can't get the home screens to stick fully. EVERY TIME I re-boot the phone:
1 One app directly on one homescreen page disappears, and three more apps and two widgets disappear out of three folders.
2 Two folders that had icons 'fixed' in ML5 but I've changed to 'system' in ML6 revert to the fixed-in-ML5 icons.
3 If I restore a backup (made with ML6, not 5) to get the missing app icons and widgets back on the homescreen and in the folders, not only does it take an age, but it loses the setting to have the wallpaper scroll. And I can't just click one setting to restore it, EVERY TIME I have to go through the whole process of selecting a new wallpaper to then select the same wallpaper just to get to the setting to make it scroll again. And in the latest update an hour ago, that's got even MORE convoluted as you've changed something so when I go to pick that wallpaper (from a folder called Wallpaper) I get taken to a list of my recent photos instead of the top level showing all folders with pictures in, taking me even more clicks than before just to get to and pick the same wallpaper I have already but so it will restore the scrolling.
WILL YOU PLEASE FIX THE BACKUPS SO THEY STORE AND RESTORE THE SCROLLING STATUS OF THE WALLPAPER!
Folders were screwed up in the ML 6 preview, screwed up in the public release, and continue to be screwed up in every beta, with something breaking for the worse every release.
