Project author field

We recently moved to project online and have come across a field called author and in odata it is called authorname. But we can't set the value during project creation and it auto populate with a value we haven't set most of the time with occasionally using a user identity. Can any help me with understanding this field and to ensure it fill with the correct value?

This comes from the project file (template) mpp file - you will see this in the properties if you open the project in Microsoft Project Desktop. The field that is of more use is ProjectOwnerName, this can be set in Project Online and works with the Project Online access model.

                             Thank you, we do use the project owner field, just trying to understand this field as it would be great if it would auto populate with the person who creates a project.
