Finish Variance - Deadline Date Settings

Copper Contributor

Understanding that when you assign a deadline to a task, that if the scheduled finish is later than the deadline, MSP calculates the total slack for that task and its predecessors as the difference between the scheduled finish and the deadline. Is there a way to keep this from occurring OR any 'Finish Variance'-esq type field to keep the total slack calculation based on the scheduled 'Finish Date' and not adjusting to the Deadline' date if the scheduled finish is later than the deadline?

no. Why would you want to ignore the deadline? You have "told" MSP that this date is important and it is telling you that you're missing it. The only way to change this is to change the deadline to the current finish date. You can do this dynamically with a paste link.
Because I want the Finish date to drive the Finish Variance calculation and not potentially the deadline date.

Maybe you're trying to use the wrong field? Total slack has a specific use and is tied to the use of either deadlines or the last date in the plan. Maybe if you use the finish variance against one of the 11 baselines this will give you what you need; set up the schedule the way you want it to be, save a baseline (maybe baseline10) and then when the schedule changes you can use the finish variance against baseline10 to get the number you want?
