Yes it does. Moreover you can use PowerAutomate to set up an automated notification of the check-in should you wish to do so.  There are also some utilities that will force check-in project plans for you if necessary.  Just be aware that when you force check-in a project, any changes made to the plan since the last save will be lost. And as a best practice, users should always close and check-in projects when they have finished working on them.  Hope that helps! :)
