Assignment Units Field Not Displaying Any Values

After I added the assignment  units field to my project Gantt View.  No Values are displaying and I can't figure out why.  Anyone know?  See screenshot.

That's because the Gantt Chart view is a task view which does not show assignment fields. Switch to the Task Usage view and the Assignment Units will show values on assignment rows.

So why is the Assignment Units field even available in the Gantt Chart view? I have no idea, it's just one of those little quirks about Project.
