The latest news for Project for the web is below.

New Features

  • Assign tasks to non-group members: Assign tasks to anyone in your organization without sharing the entire project plan with them for greater flexibility during planning.
  • Rollup Fields in Project for the web: Add summary, average, max, or minimum calculations to your numeric custom fields. See the rollup value of all your subtasks in your summary task fields.

  • Scheduling Mode in Project Power Apps experience: Organizational admins can enable Project Managers to set the scheduling mode of their projects in the Project Power Apps experience. Learn more about scheduling modes & how to use them here.

Upcoming Features

  • Guest Users: Add guest users & assign tasks to them. Guest users can view projects shared with them.
  • Different Dependencies: Users with Project Plan 3 licenses or higher will be able to add Finish-to-Finish, Start-to-Start, and Start-to-Finish dependencies to their tasks.
  • Critical Path: Users with Project Plan 3 licenses or higher will be able to highlight the tasks that affect their project’s finish date in the Timeline view.
  • Allow Microsoft 365 users to provide progress updates on their assigned tasks: Users with Microsoft 365 licenses can mark their Project for the web tasks complete and change the percent complete for their tasks without a Project license.

Trivia

Last Month:

  • Question: Users of Project for the web can use the Board view as a Kanban Board for work management. What language does the word Kanban originate from, and what does it mean in that language?
  • Answer: Kanban comes from the Japanese word for visual signal or card. This term reflects the cards on a task board.

This Month:

  • Question: Project for the web users can add several different types of custom fields to each of their projects. How many custom fields can a Project user add to one project?

As we are hopefully waiting for full Planner functionality, a conversations tab for each timeline task would be extremely helpful. This would allow us to tag other team members, similar to what is currently in planner tasks.

There is a bug in P4W. If I change the (default)name of a project on Project Home, the name is not changed when I open the project. If I change the name of a project after opening, Project Home does show the changed name. I am working in default environment still.

Have you planned to implement the filter function? the ideal would be to have the same options available today on Planner

Will we see news about an increase to the Project Task limitation of 500. Too small for a number of clients?

I notice its possible to delete a project on P4W, but is it possible to restore one? Also, you can delete a task, but the undo option doesn't work (at least in my testing - this does work in Planner). I am trying to decide whether or not to use P4W for a large rollout - on the plus side it allows task assignees to update progress which is great, and has Kanban view etc., but there are no options around restricting deletion of tasks, and no option for restoring. Am I missing something, or is this the case? If I'm correct, then the PM application itself becomes a risk to the project. Surely this is something that should be addressed prior to rolling out P4W? Please illuminate!
