Hello,

I know how to use subtract shapes for two simple objects, but I have a vector map of the world and I need to slice it in order to zoom into particular areas.  Each country is a separate vector shape and the continents are individually grouped.  The slices would pass through the middle of some of the countries.

For example, if I want to slice the world into the northern and southern hemispheres I need to cut through South America in the middle of Ecuador and trim off the top of Brazil, etc.

But subtract shapes does not work for a group.  And if I ungroup the continents, all sorts of weird stuff happens, no matter what selection order I use.  Normally I just end up with one country left out of the group.

I need to retain these as vectors so I don't have the option to convert to bitmap.

Right now I'm wondering if I should just use a different application like inkscape.I've  I've attached a  file with an example red dotted line where a slice might happen.

Any advice?

Cheers,

Geoff

@Geoff Bennett I just learned that this chat existed, so you've probably already resolved this.

I have a question for you. What kind of problems happen when you ungroup the continents? I'm able to do it with success.

That said, after ungrouping the shapes, I would (as tedious as it is) subtract from each individual shape to create your upper and lower hemispheres. If you are still in need of help on this, let me know and I'll send a video demo of how I'd do it to ensure a straight / clean line across all the countries.
