Suddenly mail through the app has stopped working - web OK

My wife's hotmail account (that she usually accesses by IMAP on her iphone) has stopped working - it complains that the password is wrong. She hadn't changed it - but reset it just in case - still doesn't work. However, when she logs into outlook.com, the password works, and she can get her mail on the web.

Is there a difference between the outlook.com login and that of IMAP? If so, how does she reset her hotmail password?

@huwmorganI'm having the same issue. It started yesterday. I tried all the troubleshooting tips I could find with no joy. I can use web mail, but I cannot use the desktop Outlook or Onenote. I get the generic dialog "Something went wrong" with an error code of 0x80070422. I even deleted my Outlook profile and tried to recreate it, but when I try, I get the same error. I can use web email and both Outlook and Onenote work of my Android phone.

I wish I could help, but I have to assume that there is an issue with MSFT, but I've sen no mention of it on the all-knowing Interwebs.

Hi, we are experiencing the same problem. We have used IMAP protocols for years to connect to a Hotmail account using native IOS Mail app. Had to use IMAP to be able to send emails from an alias email address on the Hotmail account. Spoke to Apple and Microsoft who were unable to resolve the issue. Microsoft confirmed today that they no longer allow accounts to be accessed using IMAP. This is contrary to their website although none of the server settings work anymore. Looks like Microsoft are trying to force users to use apps like the iOS Outlook app and not third-party products. Microsoft have been extremely unhelpful.

same problem with several emails.

Outlook doesnt recognize gmail account and gives error of SMTP/IMAP even when i try with other emails.

Web browser works fine but i try to add on outlook and everytime it doesnt work.

i already deleted the profile, the cache, changed password, created a 2factor authentication.

do you have any solution for this problem?

@AndreGomesI tried every repair I could find online and nothing worked. I ended up reinstalling Windows and that fixed it. Now I get to spend the next couple weeks getting everything reinstalled and configured.

@AndreGomes Hi, no solution for getting IMAP protocols to work as, according to a Microsoft support worker I spoke to today, they have apparently been stopped by Microsoft (so why do they have the server details on their support website????). My only solution would appear to use the Outlook iOS app and set up the Hotmail account as an ‘Outlook’ account. When composing an email, the app offers the primary and any aliases as options from which to send the email.

Hi, is it still using IMAP for the email? If so, would you mind posting the server addresses you used and any other useful info. Thanks.
